I'm not a major follower of women's 125 but it seems like they are struggling to find Val serious challengers. If Alexa wins it would be like a Holly Holm / Ronda Rousey upset, maybe even more shocking. The only positives I can find for her are that she has never been stopped by strikes and she is 5 years younger at 29 while Bullet may be past her athletic peak.

But Val is just much better everywhere, both her striking and her grappling are streets ahead. Her qualifications and portfolio of work are incomparable. Alexa has never faced anyone on her level and I see no evidence that she will be competitive in this fight. If she takes Bullet the distance that would be like a moral victory for her. Am I sleeping on this fighter? Or is this really basically a mismatch and a spurious co main event?

Yes she will wobble and possibly finish your girl

She's well rounded enough, there's always chance that she and her team can find some particular combo, entrance etc. they can exploit.

Jennifer Maia was supposed to get blown away completely too.

That being said, theoretically Valentina's just better just about everywhere.

not really. I think it is almost mismatch level when it comes to the grappling. Too even matched on the feet and there's no way she's going to avoid getting tossed. If she had heavy hands maybe but it's fuckin 125 lbs. Hardly anyone capable of 1 shot KO at that level with the hands.

My prediction is a 2nd round submission victory for the champ, via RNC.

Everything can happen. What scares me is that Valen comes from a long break; she might be out of shape. Hope not but breaks can turn things into the wrong way

If she wins it'll probably look something like BJ/Frankie 1. Val isn't the highest volume striker so if Grasso can scramble up to her feet when taken down she could make it a close competitive fight at range & in the pocket. She has nice feet & is very quick, solid combination punching including body work. She also has a very quick lead-leg highkick ala Rose v Zhang 1. Not that Val won't see it coming but you never know. Also Grasso has a really slick armbar from guard, reminds me of a young Pettis.

All in all its very unlikely but maybe Shevy has lost a step. It's possible that she peaked vs Andrade, who is terrible off her back & a great matchup for Shevy anyways. Odds seem fair but crazier things have happened.

No but at least she's a solid fighter and so are a few others in that weight class so it has become a decent division by WMMA standards...

A small chance, but anything can happen in mma. But valentina is great everywhere, it's very unlikely that is gets caught.

In Shev's last fight she closed as a -800 favorite and many thought she lost that fight. Valentina opened up as a -550 in this fight. Literally almost lost her last fight, winning a split decision vs a girl who no one gave a chance. It's mma, I could never understand the ...does this person literally have any chance stuff, no offense, it's just such an absurd question.

Probably not. If she stuns her and gets a sub, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen Val stunned or in trouble. Everything Alexa can do, Val does better. However, I never count out anyone who fights for a living.

People have this bad habit of underestimating lesser known WMMA fighters. And then they get shocked whenever they do well against a name

No one thought Carla would beat Rose even though she had done it before

No one thought Taila would make it 5 rounds against Valentina but she arguably won the fight

Everyone was convinced Peña was gonna get finished brutally Nunes

Many people thought Erin was gonna get killed by Andrade

The lesson to learn from all these fights is that top WMMA fighters are human and can lose on any given night. And typically the challengers tend to over perform relative to expectations

Taila Santos is way better than Alexa Grasso though.
