Ive only been training for about 6 months and i feel like my ear is real tender and one more little blow might make my ear kinda blow up. I think im gona buy a headgear for grappling but do you guys wear headgear with a gi cus i feel like it might look awkward. but i just dont want my ears to look bad hah

I don't even think most tournaments allow it. I know for a fact that if it's gi competition under standard bjj rules it's not allowed.

If you're talking for training, then it's totally up to you. If your ears feel tender or sensitive at the moment, then wear it till it stops hurting. I've worn headgear when my ears were bad, and it wasn't a problem. Alternatives include taping up your ears, or using a little vaseline.

i used to, i lost it tho and i don't really bother to find it. if i did find it then yeah, i would wear it, but i don't really care that much about cauli anymore.

it depends on the person. i have never had a problem with my ears swelling or fluid building from mma or bjj training. some guys i know, it happens like right away. I do roll with a type of swimmers cap just to keep my hair in tact but i also roll it over my ears to just prevent contact with other people.

I got head gear because I started to develop cauliflower ear. I caught it early and saved my ears. I'm an advocate.

relax fella i was kidding.

i wore headgear after my ear blew up a tiny bit once. then my ferret ate it.

I wear headgear pretty much any time I roll, gi or no gi.

Why do you care what you look like in a room of sweaty men that you roll on the floor with?

wear headgear during training if your ears are tender... unless you really want cauliflower ear or like needles being jabbed into your ear to drain it....

i put mine on quite frequently when my ears are red and tender and its never a big deal, plenty of folks wear headgear intermittently at my gym..

I wear mine all the time in training. I compete without them since they are illegal. My ears stick out... the last thing I need is for two stones to be sticking out the side of my head. I don't care that I look funny, it's just protective gear. Some people tape themselves up pretty heavily... some people wear mouthguards... some people wear cups... you're just protecting a part of you.

The guys who say they don't mind cauli change when they experience it. It hurts when they get hit in the injured spot, they have to find time to drain their ear and stuff. With my earguards on, it's never a problem for me... I just train without worries. Do as you please!
