Do you think Inoue can unify 126lbs?

Seems to be working just fine. You likely just don't realize how expansive boxing. Certain weight classes have strong followings in other parts of the world, so even if you think "no one cares about ____ weight", it is likely incorrect.

Atomweight and Bridgerweight are not fully recognized divisions, so I am not sure why you're citing that. It's as silly as someone citing cruiserweight in MMA. Im not even sure what your point is about atomweight, since you already mentioned it doesn't have a world championship. MMA has atomweight also.
MMA has atomweight and straw weight mainly for women. But that’s enough for mma.

Also, i didnt mention MMA, but since you brought it up, UFC does not have enough weight classes and some of these differences are ridiculous. Only 8 is just ridiculous. Many MMA fighters and trainers have expressed the same opinion.

Anyway, back to boxing, what is this bs about specific weight classes being popular somewhere. If every 3 weight classes were reshaped into 2 it’ll be much better. You are acting like I’m being dana white and wanting to erase flyweight cause it’s not popular. Fuck that, I always prefer lower weights cause technique matters more there (thus it’s more pleasing to the trained/practicing eye). You are putting words in my mouth and taking this emotionally personal.

The main 17 weight classes should be merged into 14 weight classes.

I dont give a flying fuck about billionaire promoters getting one less pool, jet, or mansion… are you talking as a fan or being weird just to argue? Remmember recently when Crawford unified the belts and called out the WBC for their additional fees? They should not feel more special than the other sanctioning bodies.

When I give mu critique for the sport its from a fan’s perspective in a perfect world (that obviously we’ll never have). Not ABC orgs. No bs contracts and promotions holding back big fights and unifications while casuals blindly call fighters ducking.

MMA is only missing one weight class. There should be 165 and 175 instead of just 170.

The gap between 185 and 205 should remain, as the talent pool for 205 and HW is already as deep as a urinal trough. 195 would just stretch it even thinner.

Of course, if I had it my way there would only be a single open weight class to determine the best boxer/MMA fighter and all the left out midgets can just join the circus.

In boxing it'd be too dangerous to do nowadays but it's been done in MMA. Doesn't Rizin still hold open-weight/absolute/Super Heavyweight matches? Pride, M-1, Dream, and initially the UFC have all held them as well.

At this point I think he beats Bam, Nakatani and Ball. Espinoza is his biggest threat that I see coming up.

Even if it was open weight, it would still eventually evolve into de-facto lower weight classes. It's a natural demand. If two smaller guys are doing very well in open weight, people are going to want to see those smaller guys fight, and the winner would be crowned the king of the smaller guys (which is what weight classes essentially are).

Possibly. But weight classes are normalized, so it is hard to imagine an alternative.

People think having multiple swimming strokes in the Olympics is normal, when it is absolutely ridiculous when you stop and think about it for 2 seconds. There is definitely a more sane reality that could exist where swimming is just treated like sprinting.

There would be a lot less money in combat sports without midget fights, so it stands to reason that in any parralel universe there would be some bizarro Don King who would create them to sell tickets to marks. So you are probably right.
