It looks like he has some pretty bad habits. Most of the time hes so damn good he can overcome them, but they are pretty obvious.I am looking to bet on the rematch so ive been doing some more home work.... I cant help but notice a lot of very bad tendencies that stipe has displayed. In fact DC even called his shot because of this.

lunging in with his hands down.

hands low coming out of the clinch (DC called this Knockout)

puts his left hand in his pocket after the jab instead of keeping it high

arms extended, backing straight up and eats a shot.

Rock em sock em robot striking and eats a shot.

walks in hands down and gets dropped.

overextends and eats a shot.

this time he put his right hand in his pocket instead of back up to his chin.

giphy.gif

comes in hands low again eats a shot.

giphy.gif

hands low again and overly aggressive. he didnt get hurt here but he was wide open again to a counter right hook.
giphy.gif

supper aggressive, hands down and six right hands in a row.

left hand low leaving the clinch and hands down moving backwards.

VigilantMassiveErmine-size_restricted.gif

backs out with both hands low.

Some other things i saw,
- he often times relies too much on his ability to parry punches. I saw him try to parry body shots quite a few times vs JDS leaving his chin wide open.
- when he thinks someone is hurt he goes for it hands down guns blazing. That has worked for him so far but its not always the best thing.
- He doesn't really check kicks when they land (he doesn't deal with them often)
- In the heat of the moment he can throw the game plan out the window and "just bang" very similar to Cody Garbrandt.

I actually saw more of this, i just don't make gifs so these are just the ones that i was able to find. He is a FANTASTIC fighter and i love stipe.. but im wondering if we aren't over looking some of his defensive flaws. In some of these cases he has the fighter hurt so maybe that's why hes so aggressive, but its pretty much a common thing. Someone like DC that can go skill for skill, heart for heart, has a chin, and packs power, is going to give him trouble until he cleans some of this up. I got DC by KO in round 2. Am I looking too much into this or is there something to this?

Ngannou fought with a terrible strategy and came in fat and heavy against Stipe, and still managed to hurt Stipe in the first round.

Stipe will get KO'd against Cormier and then sparked out in a Francis rematch.

When Ngannou is coming forward and being aggressive, who hasn't he hurt? And how do you define hurt? Stipe got hit in the 1st, but was never wobbled throughout the entire fight.

He's finished Overeem and Velasquez in one round. Stipe outlasted him for 25 minutes

DC finishes Stipe late in the rematch but I disagree about the Francis fight

StopDucking is that you? Not every fights gonna be perfect

Good compilation TS. Thanks.
Stipe does get reckless and overextend his combos. The one against Ngannou is the most glaring. If he's willing to be that reckless against such a dangerous guy then it just shows poor judgment.

He’s very aggressive and doesn’t think defense first unlike someone like cormier. When he’s attacking, he’s attacking. And when he’s defending he’s defending well. (Insert stipe against the cage dodging 4 ngannou punches gif)

Cormier is very defensive but leaves his hands out flailing too. He also leans to his right to dodge punches but gets away with it for the most part.
Cormier has better head movement and more defensively sound for sure though.

The real kicker is DC’s comfort in the clinch though

Nagnnou came into that fight in terrible shape. But at that time, his ego seemed to be out of control. He thought he didn't even need to train hard to win fights.

Ngannou isn't at his best when charging forward, you have a bad eye for these subtle details.

He was a patient counterstriker in every single fight he has won but fought like a headless chicken against Stipe, just running forward in a straight line swinging haymakers.

You forgot this one...

i didnt include the tko because it stated with an eye poke and it wasnt about bashing stipe. the kick didnt seem to come from a bad habit either. I did see them i just didnt count them as mistakes against stipe.

I think we overlook DC's striking habits

thats not a habit The poster above did point out one and thats dipping right into kicks. I dont think stipe really uses high kicks so i dont think this will come into play. funny gif tho lol

very true. that overeem KO had his head big as fuck. He thought he was gonna walk through stipe. Ironicly thtas kinda stipes problem too. He goes TOO hard. and thats why i worry for him in the rematch..he seems like the type that thinks fighting "harder" is the answer. He needs to fight smart and make DC beat him.

Yeah, DC has some of the most awkward-looking technique out of successful fighters. But as long as it works for him, there's no reason to change.

Not every fight can be Fisher vs. Stout.

When did I say he was at his best when charging forward? When he's the guy who is able to control the octagon and get his opponents in vulnerable positions, he takes guys out with ease.

giphy.gif

Has overeem moving backwards while he feints his way towards him (has center of cage control)
giphy.gif

Has Andre with his back to the cage + center cage control
3NpIn.gif

Has Curtis with his back to the fence + center octagon control
giphy.gif

Francis gets jab countered (not rushing forward)
giphy.gif

(moving forward but not bum rushing, nice jab, but easily gets countered)
emlcr6uaokx11.gif

(has stipe up against cage, can't land)
giphy.gif

(center of octagon, gets countered and then lands his own counter)

Do you see him "running straight forward throwing haymakers" in any of these gifs? He had Stipe in the same spot he had Andre and Curtis, but Stipe is just much better on the feet against those guys.

Give credit where it's due. Stipe out boxed and out wrestled Francis to a 50-44 decision. Sure he can adjust and be more patient, but I think 99% of HWs would have been KO'd by the shots Francis threw that night. Stipe just ate them
