Too dangerous for Judo! Do jime is a technique which (basically) involves extending your legs while your opponent is in guard and squeezing the area around the kidneys and floating ribs hard.

Kano banned it. Just like all those throat jabs and eye plucks Wing Chun types would dominate mixed martial artists with in "the street" (allegedly), do jime is TOO DEADLY.

Except I can't recall anyone having ever been submitted with such a move in mixed martial arts competition where it would be legal and and I can't imagine anything like it working against anyone who wasn't at least two weight classes below you (in which case, how have they ended up with top position in the first place?).

That said, I'm quite sure Kano knew his stuff, and had his reasons - even if they seem opaque to me. Can any knowledgeable judoka here in Grappling Technique fill me in?

It wasn't banned because it was too deadly - nobody's gonna die from the guard squeeze, and only a handful tap to it.

BUT

it can sprain your ribs, cause you to throw up, and generally cause nagging injuries that don't affect the match itself, but may keep you out of training for weeks.

It's pretty much the same deal as the heel kick to the kidney from guard. Sure, it's painful and may cause your opponent to move, creating openings...but most guys will be high on adrenaline and ignore it, only to piss blood the next day.

Banning stuff that just needlessly causes injury without giving you any tools to defeat your opponent is OK in my books.

It seems to me like it would be devastating if a large person did it on a smaller person.

and it looks a little silly, IDK if that's a reason though lol.

Also looks like it might create a lot of "stalling".

IF I....JUST...SQUEEZE...HHHHHAAAAAAARDEEEER!!!!!!!!

It's a grappling move that submits noobs. Same goes for a good body triangle from the back - if people aren't conditioned for the abuse they're likely to tap.

More than that? I'm skeptical.

Superguard is basicaly the same thing, except you reach back behind your legs and his back. That shit hurts like hell.

I guess that's why it got banned, in a training environnement this causes major discomfort very quickly and you can't really lay on the pressure slow and steady without causing some issues. Floating ribs are pretty easy to fuck up, and when they do, it takes a while and a whoooole lot of pain to heal.

Judo had no weight limits at the time.

For example on the disparity, Shiro Saigo for example was only 120, he faced opponent on the 220.

Now im 240 and i lifted weights and if you put a 120 man between my legs i can utterly crush their false ribs.

^^ Same here.

I'm about 165 and I've rolled with guys in Jiu-Jitsu that are significantly larger then me who try this. I havnt been broken in two yet.

Actually had a newb about my size try this on me one time in Randori at a club I used to go to years ago. :icon_lol:

Well if you pull off a move like that you kinda deserve to get barfed on.
On the other hand, it's up to everybody to do some core work to avoid getting crushed like that.

Huge guys will do this to me all the time. I tap. It's their own training time that's lost repeating a cheap move instead of drilling technique.

Haha, do they keep using it? My experience with it is that everybody uses it one practice or one week or something. Then the people who bother will show them/tell them it doesn't work.

I remember grappling with a friend of mine when I was 14/15. He was a much bigger man than I. I was about 130 lbs, he was about 200. I ended up in guard and he overhooked my arms and began killing me with his legs.

Hey isn't the coach the dude from M-1 who got into an argument with the wing chun man ?

It is !!!!! It is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!11111eleven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT : look @ the last minute or so

that "superguard" looks a lot like the teepee choke, just without 1 arm in....

That shit works wonders, though.

And they just think "YUSSSS! I tapped another little man with my scorpion crunch! Submissions 101 ROOLZ!"
