I just want to know out of curiosity, and sorry if it's a stupid question. I know some fighters are sponsored by brands like muscle pharm, but do they actually use the supplements? Or are those brands just using fighters as a marketing/advertising technique

Some do some dont.

GSP takes a shit load of caffeine right before he fights. Antonio Margarito takes NOXplode before he fights.

JDS on the other hand swallows a giant glob of honey to raise his blood sugar

From what I have read, just about any supplement that would give you any kind of an edge has ingrediants on the NSAC's banned list. It can be hard to find a supplement that it is worth the money, that will give you anything at all that is legal. Seems to me the best thing a fighter could do is put his money into good whole foods, and eat a good clean healthy diet. That will get you a lot further than supplementation.

I take pre workouts every once in a while, but I try to avoid them. In moderation I think they're fine, but I wouldn't make them a staple.
Supps that I take regularly: protein, green super foods, and fish oil.

Some do and some don't. I, for instance, hate pre-workout supplements. Not that I'm a fighter or anything like that but just to make clear everyone has his own method and opinion.

Yeah this is pretty much a great summary.

If you listen to Sonnen on the Joe Rogan podcast he said it is way to strict, even too much caffeine before a fight can be flagged up when they get tested. If my memory is correct he basically said anything more than the equivalent of three cups of coffees worth of caffeine will be enough to make you fail the tests.

Source for GSP taking loads of caffeine?

I know Chael takes 400mg of caffeine pre fight. Source is his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast.

I dont remember but its a supplement called Mental Edge or something like that like 300-400mg.

I dont remember what the caffeine limit is before being banned, I think 800mg.

Preworkout supplements a lot of times will make them fail the test. You need to be careful what you take before because you don't want to fail the test after the fight.

I'd say take two 200mg caffeine pills before the fight but that's it. If you decide to take a preworkout you're putting yourself at risk you're gonna fail. I say yes, a preworkout does work better than straight caffeine but do you really want to risk a failed test.

Some do before strength training sessions. In general many do take some basics like creatine, beta-alanine, carnitine, protein powder, etc.
