What are the differences that decide whether you should be a right, center or left fielder?

The CF is the fastest one, the one that is able to cover more field?

Who has the better arm?

Are there major differences between a RF and a LF? One of them is supposed to have a better arm? The major factor is which one, left or right, is your throwing arm?

I like baseball and understand the game pretty well, but i'm not sure about this.
Thanks.

Right fielders have better arms then leftfielders since when if a ball is hit to you in the OF you're more likely need to throw to 3B then 1B so that's why you need a guy with a stronger arm in RF. They tend to put the weakest fielders in LF also.

yes RF has the best arm ^^ due to the long throw to 3rd. CF should be your best range guy and OF captain so to speak. Also the dimensions of the field play a big factor i. e. Red Sox hiding Mannypants in that tiny LF in Fenway.

Centerfielder is generally the best defensive player with the most range (ability to cover the most ground) RF is usually your next best defender and where a stronger arm is needed as there are on average more balls hit to that field. Usually LF is an area a team will try and hide it worst defender. They are never going to have to throw all the way to first and the throw to third and home is shorter. Also there are on average far fewer balls hit to left field. There are many examples of absolutely horrible defensive players with great bats playing left like Adam Dunn. Its basically where you go if you can hit but are a disaster in the field.

Center Fielder is the dude that can cover the most ground. The left fielder usually is the worst fielder and worst arm. The right fielder usually has the best arm.

Center Fielder- Can cover ground and field
Right Fielder- Big arm
Left Fielder- Hiding a good hitter
Cecil Fielder-First Base/DH. Too fat to hide in left field
Prince Fielder-First Base. Also Fat and can hit ball hard

Thanks, i totally get it.

Awesome fielders like Andruw Jones and Edmonds are great examples of CFs.
Ishiro is a great RF (arm and glove).

And is there a major difference between a SS and a 2B?

I suppose the SS might have a slightly better arm since he's farther from 1B. That's all? One is supposed to be a better fielder?

exactly SS needs to be the best mix of arm strength, hands, and athleticism
3B big arm good reaction time (much closer to hitter)
2B good hands, foot work (turn the double) probably has the weakest arm in the IF sans guys like Cano.

CF - fastest guy on team. Glorious position. Left field is meh. Right field can be a bruiser.

It is different when you're a kid. If you're sent to right field in little league or high school, you're the worst player on the team usually. Cuz that is where the ball is least likely to be hit.

The guys pretty much hit the nail on the head with the outfield. The only thing I would add is that sometimes the best defensive outfielder will play RF if they have a moster arm: Ichiro, Jason Heyward, Josh Reddick...
They do this because throwing out base runners or just the threat of them being thrown out and causing them to be held at third is very important. It is harder for your arm strength to play the same factor in CF because you are forced to play deeper to cover more ground.

There is a huge difference between a SS and a 2b. You have to do everything right fundamentally to field a routine ball at SS at 2b you can just chest it up and throw them out.

Thread is pretty much done.

I played Centerfield in High School and College. I had a good arm and was pretty fast. I could cover a lot of ground.

Unfortunately, I could not hit a breaking pitch. I had to give up my dream and become a Cubicle Warrior, instead.

The End.

My fav. Centerfielder of all time is Willie Mays.

My experience differs,

I only played at lower levels, but the general rule was RF was for the shittest fielder because the ball went there the least.

this is also true. lower level is where you hide the shit player in RF (lack of power hitting, not many lefties) as the skill level increases more lefties playing per team, righties hit the ball the other way, and bigger diamond (need for RF to have biggest arm)

on my HS team I played CF and our second best OF (best most accurate arm) played RF.

Left fielders are usually the worst fielding outfielder, unless we are talking pony league. Then the right fielder is the poopy one because most batters are righties and very few have the skills to go opposite field at that age.

I dont really get the joke... but when I clicked on the link I was expecting it to lead me to some kind of sabermetric to make what I said seem stupid.

no joke just props to your SN. random post mostly. your response was certainly accurate. love me some Eastbound and Down is all.

If you can run and throw, you play center
If you can run but not throw, you play left
If you can throw but not run, you play right
If you can't do either, you play 1st base.
