In couple of interviews, Conor mentioned that MMA creates a lot of wear and tear and that a person can be a martial artist for life but a career in combat sport like MMA is temporary and that he has seen couple of examples of a legit skilled fighter becoming diminished in a frightening manner.

I feel like he is talking about Joe "Diesel" Riggs.

A young decent looking dude, pic taken around mid-2000:

This pic is like 7 years apart not 30:

There are plenty examples of this, from all combat sports involving strikes. Nothing about what Conor's said even slightly implies what this thread does.

Dude, how many fighters have aged as bad as Riggs? How many!!!??

It seems like Riggs is the WORSE when it came to aging +injury...

I doubt he was referring to Riggs specifically but dam that dude looks very similar to the jerky I consumed earlier.
Stress drugs and no sleep probably did him in worse than the fight game.

Joe's been battling pain pill issues for a long time i know that probably from all the injuries wear and tear he has taken.

Wasn't he 300 pounds at one point? Seems like his body has been thru a lot.

I remember an interview talking about his teammate who was good enough to be a UFC champ and his friend got injured and Conor was thinking about retiring before fighting in the UFC. That and he was talking about how there were some UFC fighters with great hand/boxing skills and he saw how they became diminished due to injury.

I thought he was talking about Riggs since Joe is a life long boxing practioner...

That's not fighting Homez.....dat be genetics. The reality is almost everyone, except baby faced looking dudes, ages really poorly. Just one peek at Joe's 20 yr old face and you could see that he as gonna be in a world of shit by the age of 30.

I'm pretty sure that was Owen Roddy he was talking about who had to retire because of an issue with head trauma.

I'd highly doubt he was thinking of Riggs as an example of the wear and tear of fighting. Look at all the Boxers who were not themselves when they retired because of brain injuries. And, he's being training for a while and like any fighter is banged up and sore from the training they do.

It's not like it's anything new that he brought up talking about it. But when Dana waffles on about there never being a serious injury in the UFC, he's talking complete bollocks.

We are learning that MMA is a dangerous sport and not as safe as people want them to believe. In boxing, there is an option of safety. Most boxers are too hot blooded to focus on defense. But you have fighters who retire undefeated without taking on damage. Outside of Floyd you have Ricardo Lopez and Mihai Leu.

Connor doesn't know who the fook diesel is

Joe had an epic moment with Nick in the hospital which was big news for years. I like to think he took lessons from that in terms of marketing himself.

That looks about 250-260....?

I think 275, less than 300, he was just beginning to come down in weight.
