So, when you begin to wrestle, the one of the very first things you learn are the penetration steps and the sprawl.

In MMA however, nowdays, you don't really see penetrating doubles as much, since the stances are high, though some do go down to their knees to finish their shots.

When it comes to sprawls however, you'd think that people would keep sprawling regardless of high their stances are, like Crocop, but if you look at guys like Holloway who has a real good defense, he doesn't really sprawl.

Only guy that i can think right now who has a great sprawl is Romero, but crazy thing is Holloway might have better TDD for whatever reason.

Aldo and BJ has god like TDDs.

Could it be BJ/Aldo revolutionize TDD game like Anderson Silva did with his front kick?

Aldos TDD was incredible. He would stuff and be gone. Too many guys try and patiently fight tds and lose .

Nova União guys had really good TDD. Zombie Barão was hard as hell to take down.
Pederneiras really did a good job in that area, considering it's hard to find even an average wrestling instructor in Brazil.

Aldo had the better TDD during the overall course of the fight. However, a fresh Penn, was doing shit that looked illogical to regular human beings.

Yes. Penn fought GSP but got taken down at will. Aldo has defended most takedowns against great wrestlers like Mendes.

Edgar took Penn down but couldn’t take Aldo down hmmm

Quick thinking by BJ, tickling his nuts to make him let go or feel gay

Mendes is better than any wrestler Penn fought outside of GSP and maybe hughes. Penn got wrestle fucked by GSP in the rematch (when george's takedowns got very good) and Mendes's comically explosive double is better than Hughes. Edgar is very good aswell alongside Faber.

Penn had very good defence however, usually on singles but Aldo's athletic ability and scrambles made his TDD insane. Aldo has the best TDD ever in MMA i'd say.

I don't think either of them revolutionized the TDD game.

Aldo was just really good at defending take downs using the same techniques as other fighters. He wasn't doing anything special. He just had very fast reflexes, great balance, and he's a very explosive athlete.

BJ was doing things that other fighters didn't do, but it had nothing to do with knowledge or technique. He was just physically able to do things that other fighters couldn't do mostly because of his insane flexibility. Other fighters would have defend take downs the same way, but they couldn't and still can't. BJ is a 1 in a million athlete. It's really a shame what's happened to him.

If anyone revolutionized take down defense it was Chuck, but it was more his ability to get back up using the fence that made him special, not his legendary sprawl.

Aldo fought way better wrestlers than Penn ever did.
Gsp, Fitch, sherk, Hughes, edgar, even couture said he couldn't take him down in training

Penn wins this one hands down, especially considering he was fighting guys 1-2 divisions heavier than him
