I have had this game for years but haven’t played it, but would very much like to finally get around to it soon. I have the “regular” version for my 360 (which I would play on my Series X under the assumption it’s backwards compatible) and I have the “Director’s Cut” on my PS3 (which I still have hooked up). I have heard that on the regular version some of the boss fights are practically unbeatable depending on your play style/class but that the Director’s Cut largely fixes that. However, I’ve also heard that there’s some other things that the regular version does better than the directors cut, though I can’t exactly recall what.

Is there a consensus on which is better? Any input is appreciated, especially from anyone who has played both versions.

Only thing i know is that game was awesome

Soundtrack as well

I don't know which is better but I played the original went all stealth and had no issues at all.

Interesting. What I had heard was that the boss could really only be beaten if you went more of a combat focused build and that going stealth or whatever would make the boss fights super fucking hard or something like that.

I only remember having trouble with the final boss but nothing crazy just took me a few tries. I did have enough points for some ultimate attack by then though so maybe that helped.

I think you get a few extra missions, but nothing that really changes the game all that much. I believe the big seller is a decent sized mission on a ship, that I believe takes place prior to the actual game.

Played mostly stealth. Never had a big problem at the end. It's an annoying fight IIRC, because the boss works in a tiered system, where you get him down to a certain amount of heath, and then you run a gauntlet, and repeat.

The real annoying boss that I think you might be thinking of, is one of lower bosses near the halfway point of the game. She's an absolute cunt that warps all over the stage, and there's really no strategy involved. She's a tap out boss for lots of people, because she's so stupidly designed and cheap and just completely clashes with the overall design of the game. The boss fights in general were poorly implemented, but that one in particular sticks out, because there wasn't much you could do but just dance around and pray.

Didn't they outsource the boss fights, or something stupid like that?

I thought they retooled that in the director's cut? It's been a while

Anyway, game is amazing OP, lot's of different ways to tackle missions

Couldn't tell you, but I couldn't see them retooling them in any meaningful way. They mostly just clash with the overall design of the game, so I couldn't see them fixing it too much. Most are just tank bullet sponges, which really makes all the diverse skills kind of meaningless. I'm pretty sure I played the DC, but I'm not 100%.

Anyways, regardless of the boss battles, the game is still killer. I personally found it to be way better than MD. There was a natural flow to everything, that I didn't get with MD. MD just didn't click with me for whatever reason, but HR is still one of my faves from 7th gen.

Yeah me too. HR hooked me right off the bat and never let go, I played it almost non stop. MD was good, and amazing at times, but something was off. Your lack of flow description feels about right!

I'm not even sure if I finished it now that I think about it lol, I know I'm close.

I played through regular version and I had no specific problem with bosses but I also explored everything and was pretty much maxed out. I'd say play the director's cut.

I think it was the last boss that was piece of cake if you had immunity to electricity. And some other boss was piece of cake if you just used stun gun and then normal weapons

just bought the director version good game so far, doing the first mission, feels a lot like the original so far.

Plenty of ways to beat bosses. First time i played it i did it as a shooter. Second time was stealth and a lot of fun. Stun gun and maxed out pistol. Lots of fun lil side missions to find. Awesome storytelling. Typhoon implant will take care of bosses for you.

They did indeed outsource them and they do feel very video game bossy rather than Deus Ex bossy. I don't think it was anything too gamebreaking though, a lot of Deus Ex purists wanted options to avoid combat altogether I think.

I've only played the original and was a big fan.

Since both are on consoles my guess would be that director's cut is superior. On PC, beware of director's cut, as it has performance issues.

I think the Director's Cut includes the "Missing Link" DLC which is a rather big chunk of the story that takes place during a sort of "intermission" in the main plot.

It's a great game and much better than Mankind Divided, IMO.

This is what it was I used as stealth. Didn’t get it until end game though.
I maxed it early because i had like 15 unused praxis points mid game. Always kept the typhoon fully loaded.
