Media Demetrious Johnson: The Man the UFC Erased

And they erased me giving two fuks about men’s Flyweight when they did it. Hope Figgy moves up too.

UFC didnt even have to erase him tbh. Dude had few fans and is one of the most unpopular UFC champions of all time. Thats why UFC didn't even hesitate to trade him.

They made the right Business decision. Ben brought a spark to welterweight and being on the receiving end of Masvidals Holy Knee put UFC in a good position. They used Jorges crazy popularity to sell a shit ton of PPVs. All that upside because they traded an unpopular fighter. Well played moved.

1. GSP
2. Jon Jones
3. Fedor Emelianenko
4. Anderson Silva
5. Jose Aldo
6. Mighty Mouse
7. Khabib Nurmagomedov
8. Daniel Cormier

Mighty Mouse is one of the biggest GOATs in MMA history. UFC letting him go so they could push lesser Flyweights who they felt were more marketable was just fucking sad.

Still say the UFC missed a big opportunity to make the lighter divisions a big deal. Mighty Mouse against CM Punk at WW was the fight to book. DJ having to bulk up to hit 156 (Chugging water rather than dehydrating himself) and Punk cutting down to 171 lbs.

UNFORTUNATE TRUTH: The FLW division is more exciting without him

I don't agree, the title picture being competitive or not isn't what makes divisions exciting in my personal opinion and dominant champions have trended well historically when it comes to popularity too. Regardless of what's "exciting" the integrity of the sport is important as is striving for the highest skill level possible. I'd have loved to see DJ vs Moreno or Figuredo. Hell Horiguchi should have stayed in the UFC too. Just whack.

Same can be said about any dominant champion. So why was Anderson so amazing but DJ boring?
Anderson had 10 title defenses (plus Lutter a Non Title due to weight miss by opponent) and finished 7 opponents and Cote had a knee injury that wasn't from Anderson but an existing injury.

DJ had 11 title defenses and 7 finishes. But Anderson moved up to fight 3 LHWs during his title reign. Yes they were 3 perfect style match ups as all 3 were slow sloppy brawler strikers with Zero offensive wrestling. But DJ 14-2 at BW fighting above his natural weight class and taking the BW champion to a 5 round decision. 11 of those 14 fights above his "Natural" weight class. Both similar dominant runs but one is exciting and one isn't? Makes no sense.
