Hey all,
I'm embarking on a new training program this year and for the first time I'm look at lifting in more appropriate lifting shoes. Previously I've just been using running shoes (bad, I know). I want to improve my deadlifts, squats, and cleans (I might try some other Oly lifts as well). I'll also be training boxing, BJJ and MMA a few times a week each. I'm looking for quality and a good price. There's three shoes I'm looking at right now (depending on answers and my opinion I might buy the lifting shoe and the boxing shoe, or just the multipurpose one):

VS Dynamo Weightlifting Shoe

Otomix Power Trainers (multipurpose, weightlifting and martial arts)

Rival High-Top Boxing Shoes

Should I just get shoes dedicated to each activity so that I'm not cutting corners? Anyone have experience with any of these?

Thanks!

i was having this debate with myself just a month or so ago. i ended up going with dedicated lifting shoes and i've been really happy that i did. squat, dl's, presses, barbell rows all feel stable with the shoes. i got these --> Pendlay Do-Win.

i've got running shoes that i use for other fitness type stuff and i use wrestling shoes for submission wrestling, kickboxing, and martial arts in general. grappling i usually go barefoot actually, but the point is i like having dedicated shoes for the activities, especially for lifting because once i tried lifting shoes i understood how much safer they are.

Thanks for the input man. I'm leaning towards getting dedicated pairs because it won't be that much more expensive than the multipurpose shoe. I think I'll also get wrestling shoes instead of boxing shoes right now because they're more versatile when training (I read that you can use wrestling shoes for boxing, but you probably wouldn't want to use boxing shoes for wrestling).

Anyone else have any experience with these shoes or suggestions?

Are you training to compete in powerlifting or bodybuilding?

If so I would say get the dedicated shoes. The main focus of the weightlifting shoe is to minimize any give in the sole, plus some added stability.

Otherwise many people just use a wrestling shoe. I know a few competition level athletes who do. Also, IMHO the weightlifting shoes look like some type of hybrid special olympics bowling shoe.

I have chucks and also Adidas Ironwork III's, and there is no comparison for them when squatting. I even like using them benching.

Interesting, can you go into a little more detail?

I have used both as well and prefer my Chucks. I got some off ebay for $25 and love them. It is personal preference, but Chucks are the shit. I use to squat/dl barefoot which I liked the best, until I tried my Chucks. Work like a charm.

You can find Chucks cheap at Kohls. Often they send out $10 off $25 coupons in your local Newspaper.

Doesn't get much more versatile than this:

I squat, deadlift, clean, run, box, and do BJJ in these bad boys.

I have fat feet so I can't wear Adidas or Chucks. Right now I use Asics and just kick them off before I squat or dead.

I wear my fivefinger KSO's for lifting, and running. rolled in them. Your instructor is cool with you wearing them? What about your training partners?

I also got a pair of Nike Free run+ for the days when my feet are tender and training.

There are a few people I've seen wear them in class, including one instructor. As long as you don't walk in form the parking lot in them then my school doesn't care.
