I watched DBZ in the following order:

Saiyin Saga, Namek Saga: Ocean dub

Frieza Saga, Android Saga, Cell Saga, Buu saga: Funi dub w\Bruce Faulconer soundtrack

My preference is this:

Saiyin and Namek Saga - Ocean dub w/ ocean soundtrack

Frieza saga - never saw the ocean version, only the original and Funi versions.

Android/Cell/Majin buu sagas - Funi dub + Faulconer by a long shot.

Now I rewatched the Saiyin Saga in DB Kai and I don't feel the dramatic weight in the Goku vs. Vegeta fight. Things just happen in a very non-chalant way, it feels like.

Then there's Gohan's SSJ2 transformation - watched both the Funi dub w/ Faulconer OST and the original version:

I grew up with the Ocean Dub (at least through the Namek saga). The music and voices will always be how it's supposed to sound to me but Funimation has grown on me some. I've looked everywhere but can't find the Ocean Dub for the rest of the series when they went back to complete it. Would love to see them.

Drummond is GOAT Vegeta.

I watched Freeza/Cell via raw Japanese VHS, fan subs VHS, Funimation DVD subbed. Nothing better than uncensored subbed.

I grew up with Cheetor Goku, and remember being confused and annoyed when the voice actors all changed randomly. But iirc they switched back and forth between Ocean and their in-house Funimation dubs here.

I also remember the rage inducing lack of episodes up here, and constantly having to watch the first 20 or so episodes right up to Vegeta and Nappa landing just for it to restart again. Then doing that midway through the Namek saga, then doing it again after the Garlic Junior saga.

The worst part was ending off with "Nappa and Vegeta have arrived at Earth" and the next episode you watch is a Saiyan pod shooting through space, then realizing it's just fucking Raditz again.

Yeah - that sucked big time! We also had that. Fucking restarts all the time. It was horrible! As soon as I could found the episodes online I did. That was back in 2000

The best is the one that played on Cartoon Network in the late 90s/ early 00s. English dubbing.

We rented DBZ vhs tapes in the early 90's that were copies from Japanese broadcasts/tapes. There were no subtitles nor dubbing. We tried to figure out the story as it goes along. The struggle was real.
