This is a blatant attempt by Dana to remove wrestlers , so the other top ranked fighters can keep their ranks...they are more "entertaining" per se
Also, it doesn't make sense. Dariush is #3 while Islam is #9

I think some people are overrating Beneil. He's very good, a legit top 10. But let's not forget he went life and death with Drakkar Klose merely a year ago and split dec vs CDF, who's very good, but not a top 5 killer either.

If you mean he would outclass them in a pure grappling or BJJ competition, I don't know, maybe. Charles definitely not, he's a great grappler himself. But it's irrelevant anyway, he would lose to both in MMA.

I agree with this when the talent pool is rich like we see in LW. But seeing how the contender situation played out at MW makes me apprehensive about this approach at times.

There were solid contenders for Izzy that all ended up getting paired against guys Izzy beat, for them to lose. Sure I can see the argument that if they lost to those guys, they don't belong. But styles make fights too and it was a shame that it all played out to result in Izzy vs Vettori 2.

I don't think Beneil Dariush is some untouchable guy you need to get a nice path to a title shot for. Islam might be, but he's already been fighting shitty competition (relatively) if we're being real. Dariush vs Islam makes a ton of sense and instantly makes one the title contender imo.

Otherwise what are you doing? You want to protect Gaethje too? So only Chandler-Hooker-McGregor have to fight their way up (ironically for McGregor) while Porier, Islam, Dariush should be fed cans?

Dariush is Sherdog's newest shitty win streak fetish fighter. Nothing against him, I think he's pretty good but fuck off to anyone dick riding him. His best win is Tony Ferguson who got dominated by Gaethje and Oliveira in back to back fights at age 40 basically looking worse than ever. Beyond that he has Islam level wins.

Dariush not entertaining in terms of fight style? 4 of his last 6 wins were finishes. He didn't finish Ferguson but that's damn near impossible and Ferriera is tough as nails as well.

So his best option is Islam (who should bump up the rankings come Tuesday) or Chandler. But rumor is they are trying to do Gaethje vs Chandler later this year.

Its not that I don’t want to see it or think it wouldn’t be amazing. I just want to see Islam get built up more and get more experience. I think he has the ability to beat anyone in the division but still think he needs more experience against high level guys before being thrown right in the top. I also think Dariush has earned a fight against top 1-4.

I disagree. #1 contender fights are awesome.

If they both fight lower top 10 cherry picked opponents, it only allows bullshit to happen. Like giving Conor time to recover and give him the next title shot. And why would they justify it? Because the other contenders haven’t done enough….
