I have been wondering this all day. I have thought about from a sprawl position if the person that is stuffing the takedown would use a D'Arce to dump and pin his opponent. If anyone knows if this is legal/illegal it would be useful. I am only in my 3rd year of wrestling so i am not very knowledgeable of all the rules. If anyone knows, Please help! :icon_lol:

It's "Illegal" but will that stop someone? No. As long as you have an arm in on the choke its not instantly illegal. The rules are kind of blurry on this one. As long as your not OBVIOUSLY cranking it it's really not. There is a front headlock position off of sprawl extremely similar to the d'arce that we're taught and it is a pin and it can be cranked or cause you to choke. It just looks less conspicuous than the D'arce because in the D'arce you are supposed to Use the rear naked choke position for your arms (figure 4?) but with the front headlock you just gable grip and suck to your chest but all mechanics are the same though.

Thanks. See i was wanting to use the D'Arce hand positioning because it is better for leverage to flip your opponent over. I was thinking: "If you sat in the sprawl position and cranked on a it, yeah it would be illegal." Do you think it would be illegal to use it to dump them on their back, then use it to pin them?

Are you sure your not me? I had been wondering this lately myself. It is a much safer position because it is alot tighter than a normal gator roll. But I don't think its illegal because the general rule of thumb is arm in and your safe.

In freestyle wrestling, the d'arce or something close to it is a big point getter. It is not quite the d'arce because you are not actually choking but is is the move you described or are asking about. Until the opponent can stop you from exposing their back each rotation, you can continue to collect points, spinning and spinning acround the mat. However the grip is slightly different as you can grab their tricep as a handle rather than your own bicep.

If the ref knows anything about chokes/submissions they will stop it. I used to arm triangle people to get pins, and any ref knowledgeable of the choke would either warm me to change the position or stop it completely and deduct a point from me.

It did get me a lot of pins though.

i think using the anaconda is less conspicuous. also think arm triangle for a pinning combo

I have submitted someone in a collegiate highschool match with a side choke. Techniqually if you have a arm in its not considered illegal but they might stop it for being POTTENITIALY DANGEROUS. That being said I have also been choked out from the scarf hold position before they called the pin because the guy had me jacked up so high. The key to getting a choke in without the ref stopping it is to have a arm in and be in a position where they can't see his face.

It's people like you I love docking points for as a referee.
