This is symbolism. Dana is using a strategy to look like a good, generous guy. It's used by a lot of business owners to shaft their employees and pay low wages. They do these "special favors" that make them look generous, but really don't amount to jack shit in comparison to lost money from low wages.

Construction contractors pull this by paying low wages but doing special favors like buying drinks for everyone after work or intermittently buying everyone lunch. Again, looking good symbolically, and making everyone feel bad for demanding more money with these nice gifts, but really they don't amount to shit. Merely a low wage payer's strategy.
