Those guys came and trained in the USA. They are fed on US hamburgers. They use American gyms. American conditioners. They basically breathe American.

Should Daghestani wrestling be rebranded to something like New Wave wrestling, or Washington Wrestling, or Inclusion Wresting (women do it too!)

This topic is so Relevant to Sherdog.

Why ? Because I read a lot of times that if they train in America, all they do is American.

Looks at av, post and and SN.

No, not coping at all <lol>

I know you are writing this with a tongue in cheek but a lot of their wrestling is from DC and they have learned jiujitsu from Leandro Vieira. They were all very raw before the collaboration with AKA.

Listen man. I’m bummed out about my boy JDM losing on the weekend. But this ain’t it.

They were Sambo champions before AKA and Abdulmanap had many champions in many disciplines.

Yes, but the difference in Khabib's wrestling and grappling before and after his time at AKA was night and day. Having a BJJ coach brought them to the next level
You are absolutely correct, but I am afraid that the truth doesn’t fit the narrative here…

merab is the only american to have beaten the dagestani wrestling machine.

merab davahislishi, a true american hero.

Yes, TS is making a great point actually. Before AKA or in the early days of it, Khabib was getting completely shut down by Tibau and Islam was having back and forth grappling matches with D3 Chris Wade.

And Mansour Barnaoui was blatantly robbed against Mofo.

Dagestani freestyle wrestling indeed doesn't feature much in terms of ground control, definitely not the prolonged riding that Khabib and his teams have adopted. That probably indeed comes from elsewhere, and it's probably not Combat Sambo, either (which, as far as I recall the rules, has a time limit for ground fighting).
