I have a competition on Saturday, and I need to weigh 169. I weigh roughly 175 now, after about a week or two of dieting etc...

weigh in is 9 am the day of the competition, but I'll have til about 4 before I get up.

I'm assuming cutting water weight is the way to go between now and then....

my question is, when should I start to get rid of the water weight, and most importantly how?

thanks for any advice

A. Switch to distilled water.

B. Lower food intake dramatically. We'll need to see your diet, but you should be cutting carbs and fats out, leaving you with lots of fibrous veggies and smallish amounts of lean protein. Stick to 3-4 meals a day. Increase yourfiber intake with high fiber veggies and perhaps a fiber supplementl like benifiber. Dandelion Root, a natural diuretic may also be right for you.

C. Eat or drink nothing 12 hours before the weigh-ins. That means nothing after 9:00.

D. You should be within 2 pounds of your weight 12 hrs before. if you are not, time to start sweating. Cut arm holes in atrash bag, put on the sweats, and do very light cardio until you've sweat off the weight to be within two pounds(171). The sauna is another option if it's available to you. You could buy an enema kit at the pharmacy, but I'd prefer to sweat the water out myself. I just have this thing about not sticking penis shaped things up my ass.

E. Get The Grapplers Guide to Sports Nutrition and learn to cut weight right for next time. I think some one posted it as a download on this site, so look for it.

B-I-N-G-O.

thanks for the advice.

I woke up this morning @ 172.4, so i think i will be good. i also picked up some steamed distilled water that i am going to drink from now til tomorrow night.

question though....

why would I want to be within 2 pounds 12 hours before and not at the weight 12 hours before?

thanks!

my diet the past week has been about the same every day..

8:00 am -10:00 am - turkey on a whole wheat bagel

12:00 pm - 4:00 pm snacks...carrots, lettuce, maybe soem grilled chicken

6:00 pm - can of veggie soup (about 150 calories)

9:00 pm - snack (lettuce or carrots)

You should be able to lose 2 lbs overnight.

I've also heard natural laxatives work, but I WOULD NOT try this for the first time before the fight. They should be trialed weeks before, so you know if A) it works and B) and "other" effects on your body.

other than that I think Envy summed it up quite nicely.

EDIT: just noticed you are 3+ lbs over from your goal and you still have a couple days. Looking good!

peace of cake

Try and drop what you can until friday

Eat some slow releasing carbs friday and nothing saturday until after the weigh in (you need to glycogen stores from what you ate friday, don't starve)
Drink nothing from late friday till after weigh in, maybe a sip here or there.
Have a hot bath in the morning and stay in there for a hour (I'm talking lobster boy here). If you have a steam room or something, do that instead.
Wear a few layers to go to bed (not ideal though, better if you get a good nights rest, but this bit is if your over weight still).
Some some electrolyte stuff and drink that slowly after you've weighed in, you will put it back on without being fucked

thanks for the help guys.

I just had a whey protein shake and some lettuce and I am 172, and feeling good.

Yesterday i was feeling really weak so i had some bread and felt a lot better. i have a feeling by tomorrow / saturday i will feel a bit on the weak side as well.

what are the best foods to eat immediately after weighing in, and leading up to my matches?

thanks again!

From The Weigh Cutting Thread:

Step 6
After the weigh-ins. Sip a recovery drink such as Accelerade, Pedialyte, Surge, etc. immediately afterwards. If you're not competing for a while, have a well balanced meal of protein, fruit, complex carbs, and some healthy fats. Don't eat too much, because you can get gassy. Eat normal, non aggravating foods and lots of slow release carbs; eat foods like apples, bread, nuts and turkey. Now is not the time for Mom's chili or leftover spaghetti. Eat small healthy meals, every 2 hours until competition, and drink plenty of fluids. Sports dinks are a good product for rehydrating at this time, so drink up!

dont eat any sodium either it makes you retain water, i can usually drtop 3-4 lbs over the course of 3 or 4 days on a low sodium diet. ive found a natural laxative works wonders and doesn't effect my performance. Dont starve though

huge help!

thanks again

I would also say lay off the bread and wheat based products.

I lost about 4 lbs (over a few months....sorry about that) when I cut out the bread

I just weighed 172.2 after a pretty big helping of grilled chicken and veggies. i picked up a sweat suit just in case, but I think i should be good without it.

thanks again

Envy, I think that's the second place I've noticed you mention distilled water. Do you have any links to research showing an advantage to drinking distilled water? I've never heard of it making a difference when it comes to cutting weight.

Search for Vilo McGee...he posted a weight cutting routine.
