I thought I caught this in the commentary live. Now upon rewatching it was definitely there. The commentator says Curtis Blaydes is a super intelligent guy apprently who devours books. And his teammates compare him to Lenny from Of Mice and Men, very kind and docile but if he gets his hands on you he can kill you.

Now firstly I know never judge a book by its cover but Curtis Blaydes just didn't strike me as a super intellectual individual.

So maybe I was wrong and that's on me.

Secondly unfortunately Lenny in Of Mice and Men is mentally retarded. So this whole bit of commentary was quite funny. Not funny in away that I am mocking Blaydes or the commentators, it just unintentionally turned out funny.

Well he got his hands on Francis Ngannou and did not kill him

Rocky Pennington does not look all that smart but she is a doctor
Alex Chambers does not look that smart but she is literally a rocket scientist

Does he like rabbits?
That could be the comparison with Lenny.

I like Blaydes already, looking forward to seeing more of him in the UFC.

Isn't there some guy in the NFL who wrote a mathematics thesis? lol

I'd qualify that as being "super intelligent" for an athlete. Not sure where Curtis stands.

When your last name is "Blaydes", you're basically stuck with the fight nickname "Razor". You don't even get to choose.

I am happy he didn't win; I'd rather see a European/African stand up fighter doing well than another American wrestler, to be honest. We've got plenty of those in the HW division.

I thought it was strange, calling him very intelligent then comparing him to Lennie who was clearly retarded.

yeah Urshchel has a bs and ms in math and more than few published papers

oh, the good old "i read books therefore i am intelligent" fallacy.

You'll stumble across some shocking information on people that would be considered public figures and exceptional levels of intelligence from time to time. Obviously it's not the norm because for these careers it is not a requirement, but there are still a handful of people in them that stand out in that regard. It's always fascinating to discover and definitely makes you more wary of pre-judging people in those roles.

He was shockingly unimpressive. Yeah Nagganou is huge, but Blaydes' takedowns attempts were awful. No set up and bad form. He did not look like a champion wrestler. Looked like a high school freshman to me. Put his head down and leaned forward for a sloppy shot multiple times.

Different degrees of intelligence. Jds is super intelligent when it comes to languages. Same with werdum.
