Is anyone here from Connecticut? or does anyone know when and where there is going to be a grappling competition in CT. Also are there any good BJJ schools around CT that are like decent in price (college student paying his own way with a low paying pharmacy job) thanks.

edit*** I live in southcentral ct (new haven county) so I hope there are some schools down there

I read this and thought to myself "conspiracy theory grappling?"

lol...

I live in CT and most of the comps are in New Jersey and Mass that I go to.

New Haven has a lot to offer with training:

www.ctmma.com is a good place.
Royce Gracie has a school there
http://www.gracie-jiu-jitsu.com/
and I believe there are a few more places.

http://www.submitbjj.com/ - in Norwalk
American Top Team has a school in Danbury - http://www.bestwayjiujitsu.com/

If I had to choose in your area I would go to, Best Way (ATT), CTMMA, or Submit BJJ

PM me if you have any question and if you come to Middletown you can always train with us.

thanks

i personally train at royces new haven school and i love it that, great instructor and a great bunch of guys there.

if any of u know any more not just in new haven but all of CT let us know, BJJ is finally blowing up here and we should all stay in the loop.

Team Link has affiliations in East Hartford and Enfield, good guys at the East Hartford location I trained there for a couple months.

Royce Gracie also has a West Hartford location i've heard pretty good things about

i trained at the royce school in west hartford prior to moving to hawaii. great bunch of guys.

Honestly... It might be a stretch for you living in New Haven but the cheapest place is probably at Delima BJJ - http://teamdelima.com . It is only about 85/month and the instructor is excellent. He is ranked #1 in CT by NAGA. IMHO I like it better than the Bestway school [I have trained at both].

which place do you think is the most technical per say ??

It depends really - Marco Alvan and Team Link have very heavy focus on the technical details of grappling, and that has lead the team to have a LOT of success in the local tournaments they have competed in. It is a fairly new team and still growing, but they're definately well respected in the area..

The problem is that Marco trains out of Ludlow, MA - so all the other schools he tends to make it to once a week tops. While all his instructors and affiliates im sure are very capable, the instruction he gave was just much better from my personal experience - he is a fantastic teacher.

Team Link guys have also been tearing up the New England MMA scene... plus Paulo Filho just got onboard alongside Gonzaga and Alvan.

I would say go for Brad's class in new haven. hes solid. the royce gracie schools run by jim hughes are all really good. then again, i am biased.

I train at a most of the places in CT and I would have to say that Chris at Modern Self Defense and Brian at the team link school in Hartford are some of the most technical instructors in CT.

im stuck between Team link(east harford), royce gracie(west hartford) or MSD(middletown) so for people who have trained there im looking for heavy focus on technique and a certified instructor of course. and im looking for a place geared strickly for BJJ not MMA

Hello Everyone,

This is Brian from Team Link in East Hartford. I am a Purple Belt under Marco Alvan and Gabriel Napao Gonzaga. In East Hartford we are strictly BJJ and have a great group of guys. Everyone is welcome to come try a class with us. Our class times are Wed and Fri 6-9pm and Sunday 11-whenever everyone can't go anymore. Give me a call with questions 860-371-1656 or post on here.

Brian,

I know you said strictly BJJ, but just to clarify, there is no MMA or standup at all? Also, is it predominatly gi or no-gi? Also, how often do Marco and Gonzaga show up at the East Hartford location? Thank you very much.

I train at MSD in Middletown and we train stand up and BJJ. Chris is a purple belt under Roy Harris. Send me a PM is you have any other questions

We only do BJJ in East Hartford however, you can go to Ludlow for the MMA classes if you wish. We train primarily in the GI and train No Gi only a couple times a month. Marco and Napao try to get there once a week but lately it has been once every two weeks since they are so busy with Napao getting ready for his fights lately as you can imagine.
