i read a big dose of creatine helps but the weight straight back on, any one agree with it?

It wont make that much of a difference, because you barely have any time to take creatine after the weigh-in. Also you don't want to take creatine until after you are fully hydrated. If you do that, you will most likely cramp up a great deal.

If this is a same-day weigh in then I'd say not to use too much. But adding 2-3grams of creating to a carb/elecrolyte drink isn't going to harm you and may actually help retain some of the fluid. I wouldn't do any more than that, though.

Im no expert by far but i do have some experience with supplements. If you were going to take something i would say take a pre workout sup like NO Xplode or NO shotgun and both have some creatine in them as well as some amino acids that will help out. In my opinion i would stay away from supplements as much as possible right before the match but then again i had terrible experiences with straight creatine like bloating and cramping i guess theese can be taken care of with water intake but i always felt to much water made me feel heavy and sluggish but to every one there own. On a last note if you do take it look for the kind that absorbs easier, the specific name escapes me at the moment but its something like mono... or poly... idk but if you ask the salesman he will know.

Yup! defo take some kind of NO product! Not only will you be sure to win due to the insane focus and pump you'll get, but you will also looked jaked and vascular whilst doing it! :icon_conf

Shane Mosley used to do this in his Lightweight days. He said it helped to retain water post weigh in,and make him more explosive in fights.

He also used it as an excuse for a subpar performance against Phillip Holliday, said he took too much and cramped up.

Personally I get 20g of creatine between weigh ins and the fight the next day. I also eat a lot of pancakes during that time so maybe I'm not the best one to take advice from on this. However I have been able to easily put 15lbs back on without trouble so take that fwiw.

as a update to this i was getting ready for a match and was using hydroxy cut to get down t where i needed to be and while it helped with diet supression and the like it killed my cardio. I didnt know it until after loosing the bottle two weeks later it went through the roof (comparitivley) come to find out hydroxy cut raises your heart rate which in counter to what you want. Seeing as how caffeine does the same thing i would stay away from NO products as well, go natural. I remember taking NO xplode before a football game once and i remember being sluggish.

if you have cut a lot of weight then creatine is probably one of the last things i would be taking, possibly next to caffeine and erm, heroin??

seriously though if you are dehydrated you need to rehydrate properly and i imagine something that is going to raise your heart rate (which of course creatine does) is going to be a pretty bad idea.

if its an on-the-day jump-on-the-scales at whatever weight you walk around at for a wrestling tourny or whatever then i cant see it having a great deal of effect either way.

there is the possibility though that during a long day where u need to compete flat out then get rests, then later on compete again that something that pumps you up, like creating, NO etc, is going to have worn off after a few bouts/matches and you will have come down from this and totally lack the energy and will to compete flat out.

Excuse me? Do you even know what creatine is?

I wondered the same thing??

The answer is obviously not.

You would be surprised at the number of idiots who are unable to read a label and confuse NO-Xplode and other pre-workout supplements with creatine rather than having the intelligence and reading comprehension to see that it is plainly just an ingredient that is often included.

Yea ill have to do some research but i dont beleive that straight creatine will raise your heart rate but a lot of the products it is mixed with will. I guess that if your blood was more saturated that your heart might have to work harder to pump it but i think creatine makes your muscles store water and not your blood so i dont think it would raise your heart rate. What it will do is bloat you up and possibly make you cramp.

Creatine by itself WILL NOT raise your heart rate." The stimulants; caffeine, theobrimine, yohimbe, etc that are included in many pre-workout blends are what will raise your heart rate. Straight creatine monohydrate, ethyl ester, HCL, or whatever form you choose will not. Creatine allows your body to produce ATP more efficiently. It completely non-stimulant.

No. Creatine does allow muscles to retain some water above normal, but if anything, that's good, because that allows more nutirents, electrolytes, etc in the muscle cells. Creatine doesn't thicken your blood. Being dehydrated thickens your blood. Taking EPO tickens your blood. Taking creatine doesn't.

What it will do is bloat you up and possibly make you cramp.

This is very individual. Some people bloat 10lbs with creatine monohydrate. Others like me add maybe 3lbs. Again, there are other forms that tend to retain less water.

As far as cramping, it's been shown to reduce cramping as long as the athlete is hydrated properly. If you're getting the fluids, carbohydrates, and electrolytes you need during rehydration, that will take care of cramping. Taking creatine in that time will have a negligible effect and may reduce the likelihood of cramping.

i was sure i read a study that said creatine raised your heart rate.

i have always avoided creatine, i just got the idea creatine was generally for bodybuilders and not athletes.

so let me get this straight then, creatine = good. right??

Unless you need to make weight, yeah creatine is good. If you're a marathon runner though it might not be very helpful...only works for anaerobic activities.
