Yoel Romero was an absolute tank of a man and has super strong takedown defense. TD defense percentage in MMA is very high. Would Khamzat be able to take down Yoel at will in his prime?

Keep in mind he is an Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, a World Champion, and a multi-time Pan American champion. He was the 1999 World Champion (five-time medalist at the World Championships), the 2000 Olympic Silver medalist, a three-time World Cup winner (six-time medalist), the 2003 Pan American Games Gold medalist (bronze medalist in 1999) and a five-time Pan American Champion.

Khamzat is a greco roman wrestler. so yes..

Would be super hard to control Yoel
But if he keeps going for it maybe somewhere in 3rd or 4th round he starts to gain control

Romero was awesome in catching people with his heymakers during wild scrambles and I have no doubt that he would have got Kamzat with a wild uppercut or hook during a missed TD.

He might get a few takedowns, but yoels body type is harder for him to get in on, low center of gravity, really good at sprawling, strong, athletic.

You would think that but Yoel is intelligent and would focus on countering the takedowns, much like what he did against Weidman who was a pressure wrestler. Yoel might be too explosive to effectively takedown and control especially if he's aware of it. Darth choke would be way too hard or even impossible on someone as thickly muscled as him, and a lot of situation Dricus were in you could tell he would get away with one good explosion, which is Yoel is at an olympic level.

People call khamzat boring then say they want to see one of the most boring fighters ever fight him lol

romero fought many great grapplers. I can't say he was that hard to take down. It was harder to keep him down though because he was so explosive and flexible, he had great scrambles.

Prime Yoel actually might stand a chance to counter khamzats wrestling. Too bad he is now 50
