Why he didn’t he just shoot him?

He put his own life at risk to save the life of a criminal.

Wow that dude is a boss.

God damn lol. In America that guy gets shot dead. What a police officer that's crazy badass

Like a boss, judo toss, bend his arm back and make him look like a fool.

lol that guy wasted all that time dragging his blade on the ground

Pretty impressive actually... almost like he already knew what exactly what was going to do that criminal.

How soon before the experts chime in with statements of how all cops should use takedowns like this instead of guns when it comes to fighting off armed opponents

While a complete badass, that cop is a feckin idjit.

Best part is machete guy having the theatrical idea to do the intro swinging the blade on the ground like some videogame boss. Judge should give him 5 extra years only for that LOL

Not to deny that cop got gigantic balls/techniques/reflexes/instinct.
All true, but i say once he realized what the guy got in his hand his enemy option were kinda limited... Not saying there are'nt likely many bizzarre machete techniques, but i guess 99% of times is used like that, a big downward angle swing
Is a simple concept weapon after all, one single edge, no point, kinda heavy and purposely unbalanced

The cool part is think that the cop instinct/experience made him realize all that in the few seconds it took the guy to take out the machete and do his boss intro LOL

He is the hero that society deserves.
