Coolest moment from Pride buyout.

Was cool that this moment was actually on camera. I know how much fans were looking forward to the Chuck and Wand fight actually being able to happen.

UFC got fucked in the deal from what I remember. Well not bad, they got rid of their biggest competitor but I remember there was an oversight where they thought Fedor was going to be acquired. Idr the details though.

Yea they basically bought the logo and the rights to the catalogue I dont believe any of the fighters contracts were involved. I know Enson has talked about it in the past and the situation with the Yakuza involvement in the deal.

Well they definitely acquired the contracts. That was the whole reason why they offered Hunt a buy out rather than honor his 2 fights he had left.

I remember the Hunt thing. I just know Zuffa was mad about some issues they had with contracts and them not having the rights of fighters that were under the org.

They supposedly intended to run the organization separately, but we're unable to secure a new TV deal in Japan. They claimed that it was so tainted by the yakuza involvement, that no one would touch it, so they just dissolved it and merged the remaining roster with the UFC roster. Seemed like they didn't all that hard though.

Was sad they were not able to do more. Still would like to see them pay homage to Pride by doing an event with Pride mat and logos in the cage. Still burns that Sakuraba and Fedor never came over.

Bud, Saku started his career in the UFC before PRIDE

I know that. I know he won a tourney in UFC just would have been nice to see him come back

He was past his prime after 03/04
And there was no way he was fighting outside of Japan.

Fedor on the other hand, Dana blew that hard. He could have easily did Fedor v Couture then Fedor v Brock

Yea, There were still some fights that could have been there for him. The Fedor thing was a screwup. Could have been some of the biggest fights of that time. Probably would have earned Dana some much need respect amongst the fans at the time. Instead of waiting till he was in Strike Force to basically say yea he was never that good.

He’s ours….lol
<{jackyeah}>

And it only got weirder.

Strikeforce declined to match and said they weren’t interested in bidding on shields, basically saying the ufc could have him at whatever price the ufc wanted lol

They couldn't match the offer and ended up just releasing him but they tried to make it work. That's not the same as the UFC getting him for whatever they wanted.

Exactly. Where does it say the UFC could have him for whatever they wanted?

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker is “tossing around numbers” with the manager of his current middleweight champion, Jake Shields, but he will not get into a bidding war for the fighter’s services...

Shields’ manager and father, Jack Shields, today opened the door to non-exclusive negotiations – known as the “matching period” on a fight contract – after the fighter’s exclusive negotiation period with Strikeforce expired earlier this week.

It seems pretty clear they entered non-exclusive negotiations and the UFC made an offer that Strikeforce didn't want to match. Instead of getting into a bidding war they just released him.
