There I said it.

I looked again at DDP vs Khamzat, JDM vs Islam and noticed something...

Why were DDP and JDM just laying there?

In a real fight, they would surely attack the back of the head as hard as possible right?
Just start smacking the occipital lobe and make them blind

As soon as the opponent on the bottom starts punching the face,
Russian-style fighters turn their head so only the back part is shown.

Effectively becoming immune to damage as long as they have top control 🤣

This is like a video game glitch where you can attack your enemy but they can't attack you.
Real-life exploit of a flawed ruleset.

If the UFC wants to get rid of boring hug matches,
maybe allow any person on bottom position to have back of the head shots.

That will make the person on top more active in looking for GnP or submissions,
instead of being rewarded for damageless "control time" from the judges POV.

I think PRIDE-style knees on the ground and soccer kicks/stomps would allow people to more effectively combat grappling attacks. I'm still holding out hope for the UFC to allow both elbows to the head on the ground and knees and kicks to a downed opponent. Maybe after enough wrestlefuck decisions they'll try it. Who knows...?

Who do you think has enough power to blind someone lying on their back? I don't even think Cro Cop could do it and he broke Sakuraba's eye socket from off his back.

This argument is equivalent to claiming so-and-so is only effective at striking because they don't have to worry about getting kicked in the balls.

maybe it wouldn't be enough for someone on bottom to blind the guy on top,
but it would create enough annoyance for the guy on top to move and be active.

also a way to score damage points for the person on bottom.

rather than the top guy spawn-camping a position where no progress is made from either side.
a "zugzwang" as they call it in chess.

Fucking lmao at the idea you could generate enough power to hurt someone with a hook to the back of the head in that position.

It would make triangles a lot worse for people though.

OP is right and all you guys don't know shit about MMA

Just imagine this last punch, but to the back of the head

It’s effective because they’re really good wrestlers which has always been a really good base for MMA.

What gets me now though is many of them have decided to stop taking any risks on the ground at all, avoiding advancing position or doing damage simply for “control time”. That is the problem. They refuse to do anything that could get countered and lay on guys, taking advantage of there being no anti stalling rules in place.

Its really not any one thing about "the style", the reality is while theyre great at wrestling its not that uncommon to see them lose to Iranians, Georgians, Americans and Japanese etc. We are talking their best guys too, shit Bo Nickal beat Batyrbek Tsakulov and Rinya Nakamura beat Islam Dudaev (also current Olympic gold medalist Rei Higuchi 3 times).

Here's the deal, in the US we have Football, Basketball and Baseball. The big 3, theyre in our middle school and highschool systems, they are collegiate sports that get people scholarships and you make 500k a year to sit the bench. Even Olympic sports are often more prestigious than combat sports in the US. In the Caucassus...15k/15k is insane, 15k USD is Mahachkala is considered upper middle class or better...these guys are so fucking wealthy with these wages its kinda insane. And thats their capital city. Meanwhile in the US 80k a year in most cities gets you month to month...and you often need a degree or real experience to even get such pay. Lmao MMA and Boxing is INSANE to pursue for an American.

Nevermind the fact that combat sports in places like Russia, Caucasian Republics and countries and Central Asia is a staple of their culture...they grow wrestling, they love to box, they love Judo, they have all these combat sports systems and military combat systems for competition that are genuinely highly competitive. Their Karate is often times more like full contact kickboxing type shit. Its huge there and the cost of living is so low and they dont have nearly as much opportunity...if the UFC actually was merit based you'd see so many fucking people from the ex soviet world on Khabib, Islam, Umar, Yan, Arman etc level I think it would really shock people but...UFC keeps about 30-35 slots on the entire 750 fighter roster for fighters from Central Asia, Russia and the Caucasus combined and for some reason they often sign the trash ones or the LHW/HW ones because while they hate these guys in terms of marketability, they need talent pathetically bad at 185 and up.

But yeah, these guys...its not cracking their style, its getting on their level. Islam has been seriously competing and training at a world class level since like the 5th grade. By the time he was in Middle school he was training with Abdulmanap and Khabib and chose that as his path in life. Of course hes insanely talented too but this is a common path for fighters from this walk of the world, meanwhile your Payton Talbotts did a little wrestling in highschool and found a hole in the wall gym post highschool and decided to see where it goes. Its like buying a Miyata and trying to race vs formula 1 right now. And the incentive for people from Russia is insane, that initial 20k/20k contract is MAKING it for them, if youre American its still poverty lmao.

the one who initiated the takedown would be the 1 landing back of the head shots and grounded knees more like

It would have to come through the mat so it would certainly be impressive.
