McGregor will not fight a talented young wolf. That is not the UFC - McGregor formula. If McGregor comes back, they will cherry pick someone with name recognition who is past his prime or not a major threat to win. Cowboy Cerrone had lots of wear and tear from many hours of cage time and had lost umpteen one sided fights in a row when he got the call for McGregor. Nate Diaz was a popular LW, but a fringe Top 10 fighter. Unfortunately for McGregor, Nate is a dog with crazy cardio and the 10 day short notice camp didn't matter. Diaz received a one sided beating in R1, but eventually turned the tide in R2 when McGregor gassed. McGregor panic wrestled when the striking started going Nate's way and then got choked out which he didn't even bother to defend. He was supposed to fight Chandler who also had a lot of wear and tear, was old and probably on the decline. Short fighter who would stand and trade with an opponent who is far better at fighting at distance and controlling distance. Chandler hits hard so he would have had a chance to win, but he would probably leave an opening in R1 or R2 that McGregor could exploit while he still had gas in his tank. When McGregor fought elite LW opponents like Khabib and Poirier it didn't go well, although he did embarrass Alvarez.
