Cody's career is pretty short, but it is pretty typical. I think he is a natural athlete who had a normal decline. He also fights at a lighter weight class which historically has worse longevity compared to say heavyweight.

Cody started fighting in 2012 and went 5-0 on the regional circuit. These numbers do not include Reebok or Venum fight pay

2015
Win over Marcus Brimage 8k/8k=16k
Win over Henry Briones 10k/10k=20k

2016
Win over Augusto Mendes 20k/20k=40k
Win over Thomas Almeida 24k/24k/48k
Win over Takeya Mizugaki 27/27k=54k +50k bonus
Win over Dominick Cruz =200k

2017
Loss to TJ DIllashaw=350k

2018
Loss to TJ Dillashaw=200k

2019
Loss to Pedro Munhoz=130k

2020
Win over Raphael Assuncao 130k/130k/=260k +50k bonus

2021
Loss to Rob Font =135k
Loss to Kai Kara France=135k

Total career purse= 1688000 plus Reebok/Venum so lets say 1750000 just as round figure.
25% effective tax rate averaged over his career= 1750000 - 437500=1313000
Take out about 20%( of purse when he was a top fighter) for Ali and his coaches which leaves Cody with just north of a million bucks. He probably has made about 1.1 million after coaches and taxes in his UFC run.

Yeah the guy has been getting KO'd quite bit lately, but he has made quite a bit of money fighting and only has 12 UFC fights. I think he is at the end of his career and should take an easy fight or two then hang it up while he presumably still has his health.

I still think Cody could beat Baldo and O'Malley, he just needs to take some time off and regroup.

They both would KO him stiff. Keep dreaming.

Cody would still have a huge speed and strength advantage of Baldo, so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

And O'Malley could end the same way he did against Cheetos Rivera if Cody chopped his legs and kept his chin down and actually used his wrestling.

I wouldn't call it an average career, it was a hell of a run and downfall for Garbrandt. His fights with TJ were big at the time and those 2 fights broke his career. He was never the same.

Id argue it is incredibly rare to with the belt and then lost 5 of your next 6. Not to mention he literally looked like the GOAT against Cruz.

I agree that his career is over but I cant think of a more roller coaster career with so many abrupt losses. He's an exciting fighter even in his losses.

Aldo lands clean on Cody, he's done. The punches that wobbled Font would stiffen Cody. Aldo also won't get in his range too often and Cody doesn't have the defense to push in aggressively. Cody has a 65" reach. Aldo has a 70" reach.

I hope he made more than that. Wow.

I enjoyed his career. Yeah, I’m talking about pre-skid. The night he won the championship, bringing the kid in the ring with him, was a cool UFC moment. I have been watching UFC a long time, too, and not a lot of stuff like that have happened.

he was annoying at first. I mean, just look at him. You can tell he wasn’t given much by way of direction. His father is still in prison iirc. Add the breakup of his family. It’s hard to root against him nowadays. Sadly, he is done.

if he could get a Rizin contract, or even a bellator run, I think he could get things on track, resetting what was once a promising career. Staying in the UFC will only make it worse for him. He will lose. He needs to put on weight and change so much about his game. I don’t care if he has to lay-and-pray like Ishida. Something has to change.

Cody would turn Baldo into a panic wrestler.

omalley is the best option for cody, if he chooses to compete again. its a winnable fight for cody, but its also a lucrative fight. assuming its his last, it will be best to go out on a big payday. if he wins, he can maybe get another fight in this same vein.

but i hope cody is saving. he wasnt on top very long, and his decline was fast.

I think if Frankie refuses to retire and wants another fight at BW, they should just feed him to Cody. Whichever guy loses will probably get released. This is the fight they should have made instead of letting Cody make that ill-fated move down to 125.

Cody would not have a strength advantage and his speed didn't help him at all against Font. Cody is the one who panic wrestled in his last two fights and he isn't going to take Aldo down.

Cody was just coming off of Covid when he fought Font was trying to "economize" his gas tank but it didn't work as planned, but at least he didn't get starched. Font had Baldo in more trouble at times than he did with Cody.

Cody wouldn't need to take him down, just nuke his head like he did with Assuncaeo.

I don't think you know what that really means. Anyway, Cody ran away from 125. Aldo just soundly beat the guy who soundly beat Cody. Denial. Not the river

MMA math at its finest. I admire your work.

Tits is working mental gymnastics to hug his boy neck tats. Nothing to see here.

Cody needs to fight some pillow fisted guys, wrestlers or bjj guys. But 125/135 is so damn well rounded

What is up with people's obsession with taxes when it comes to fighters? Don't we all pay taxes? If this was a Sherdogger income thread, you wouldn't start deducting taxes from gross salary - gross salary is what you compare with unless we are perhaps comparing tax rate between different countries.
