Hi everyone,

I’m new to boxing and looking to buy my first pair of gloves. I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the options like sizes, weights, materials, and brands. I mostly plan to do bag work and sparring occasionally. How do I know which gloves will offer the best protection, comfort, and durability?

Are there specific features I should prioritize for beginners? Also, do certain gloves break in faster than others? Any personal recommendations or experiences with gloves in the $50 to $100 range would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Talking about just bag gloves. If you spar, you will need sparring gloves. I shop the sales at Title and Ringside and buy gloves when on sale for under $75. I sometimes buy them on Amazon. I read the reviews on the internet (some are from Sherdog) first, but I have not been disappointed. I train in a boxing gym 3 evenings a week, which is mostly padwork and maybe 5 minutes on the heavy bag. I train at home in the mornings, maybe 4 times a week, with about 10 minutes on the heavy bag. Therefore, I am not a heavy user plus I have two bag glove pairs for evening and two bag pair for morning. Never a problem with the funk smell. I never could understand that unless you are a pro or serious amateur boxer, is why people spend $$$ on bag gloves. There are others like Everest, Fairtax Rival and others but I think you get the best bang for your buck shopping sales on Title, Ringside, or Amazon unless you are a competitive fighter. Then get the best you can afford.
