But I think they did respond, by outlawing the ability to tell the sex of a child before birth. And if you ask why not just abandon the original policy, the obvious answer is probably that the cost of abandoning it was perceived to outweigh the cost of having it. When that was no longer the case, the policy was indeed abandoned.Sure but even after it became evident what was happening they persisted with the policy. Secondly, I guess it is more understandable in western countries where politicians only give a shit about a 3/4 year cycle - for re-election but they don't have those issues in China. Thirdly, I said 'think about' not 'fully understand'.
