Just came across a video of chimaev getting smoked 8-0 in a wrestling match when he was younger

interesting because he boasts about an undefeated wrestling career

more interesting is that once he’s down 8-0 and being dominated - he appears to kind of fake an injury and blame it in that …. Almost looks like a cop out - first time I’ve ever questioned his heart …. I bet a lot of money on him this weekend and now I’m scared if the going gets tough he’ll cry injury as an excuse .

anyone seen this video … and did everyone but me know that his real name is khamzat girikhanov ? Apperently he only changed his name to chimaev because it means Viking .

** I know wrestling is not mma and it should mean nothing …. Just found all that info interesting as I did not know …. Just seems a little faker to me now and makes me question him a bit more …

Here’s the link …

His real name is Khamzat Groat, named after his father in Sweden, Dick Groat, but uses the other name for MMA.

Weird that they would mispel his first name. His name is not Kaz-mat.. its Khamzat (pronounced Ham-za)

Also, the score shows 1-0, maybe it was best of 3 rounds?

it was certainly 8-0 …. Did you watch the video or read the article - definitely 8-0 …. And yes my speed spelling on a phone with big hands is tough - sorry (not sorry) about my writing

the talent level of grapplers in that region is so high that i'm not surprised at all. there's probably more khabib/khamzat/islam level fighters that haven't been brought onto the scene yet.
Being a slightly better wrestler =/= being anywhere near as good a MMA fighter though.

There are plenty of wrestlers that are better than Khabib or Khamzat, the olympic gold winners from respective weight classes would eat them as a snack. It doesn't matter that much whether you are in the 99,999th or 99,995th percentile of wrestlers for the sake of MMA though and how well your wrestling style translates and what other game you have is much more important.

Pretty interesting ,thats a good find. The dude he lost to looks like a beast. The guy is Zaccharius Berg and he was an Olympian wrestler and Euro champion

Tony's real last name is Padilla but he competes under his Scottish step-dad's last name. It is not that uncommon.

Khamzat hurt his elbow (the taped up arm) in a previous match which is why hes being so defensive in this match.
