Chris Evans Wants to Extend Marvel Contract After Infinity War

Chris-Evans-Marvel-Studios-090415-Dragonlord.jpg

when Collider recently sat down with Chris Evans in anticipation of his directorial debut Before We Go (in theaters and VOD September 4th), the actor confirmed that while his current Marvel contract only runs through Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2, he’s more than happy to extend his stay:

“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such—I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’ Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.”

“It’s so mind-boggling that I was so tentative in the beginning to jump onboard. What an asshole I would be if I hadn’t done this. I mean can you imagine? Kicking myself—I’d never forgive myself!”

So while Evans’ current contract runs out at the end of the sure-to-be-huge Infinity War saga, directed by his Winter Soldier and Civil War helmers Joe and Anthony Russo, he’s certainly game to stick around for as long as Marvel will have him. It’s entirely possible that Feige’s plan—now out from under the purview of the notoriously stingy Ike Perlmutter—includes a changing of the guards as far as Captain America is concerned, so there’s no guarantee Evans will stick around.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Is Not About Secret Identities

Captain-America-Civil-War-090515-Dragonlord.jpg

Captain America: Civil War is not about unmasking and secret identities. In the original comic book crossover that was the crux of the issue, with the government wanting superpowered individuals to register as part of the Superhero Registration Act, and they wanted everybody on file with their full identities revealed and all that. In the course of the story Spider-Man revealed his true identity and Captain America and Iron Man came to blows over it all. With the next Captain America movie having that title it's easy to see why some people think that's the plot of the film. But it isn't.

There is no Registration Act. There are Accords, a global move to govern the superheroes. After the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, where the Avengers showed up and busted shit in South Africa and Sokovia, many of the world's governments are concerned about a unilateral super-powered strike force that answers to no one now that SHIELD has been destroyed (SHIELD is still gone in Civil War). The divide between Captain America and Iron Man boils down to that famous Latin quote that gave us one of the best comic book stories ever: Who watches the watchmen?

It's similar in some ways to the story of the comic Civil War, but only in the broadest strokes. The main difference is that there are almost no characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with secret identities, rendering all of the registration angle utterly moot. This isn't going to be a movie where Cap and Iron Man fight over whether Daredevil and Spider-Man get to maintain their secret IDs. It's a larger question of responsibility, and to whom these heroes answer. It cuts both ways - who is responsible when the Avengers get into a battle that causes civilian casualties... but also can the Avengers be told by a world governing body not to get involved in a terrible situation where lives are at risk simply because the local government says to stay out?

Should superheroes be free to do as they please, ubermensch inflicting their will on the world? Should superheroes be bound by the whims and changing winds of politics, unable to help people simply because a dictator who has a place on the UN Security Council doesn't want anyone interfering in his human rights abuses? It's a rich conflict where both sides are potentially right. It's a conflict that grows out of the two characters: Tony Stark who has become increasingly aware of his responsibility to the world and Steve Rogers who has seen everything he believed in undermined when SHIELD was revealed to be a Hydra front.

Here's the list. If this is too long and too much work for you, I can narrow it down.

You said you'll put them in the Archives. If it's okay with you, can you transfer the threads back to Mayberry (unless you think it's not safe in Mayberry).

Thank you once again. You are a Godsend.

HERCULES Starring Dwayne Johnson Set for August 8, 2014 Release

Hercules-Dwayne-Johnson-0116-Dragonlord.jpg

Following the official announcement late last year, MGM and Paramount Pictures have set an August 8, 2014 release date for Brett Ratner's Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson. The film will be based on the Radical Publishing Hercules comic books of which there were two series; The Thracian Wars and The Knives of Kush, both written by Steve Moore with art by Cris Bolsin. The screenplay for the film version was written by Ryan Condol. The Thracian Wars is officially described as follows:

Fourteen-hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the Earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules, powerful son of the god king Zeus, received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods, finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and the presence of death. These men and woman never question where, why, or whom they go to fight; only how much they will be paid. Knowing this, the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. Hercules begins to question King Cotys' motives when he takes his army out to battle and sees them practice on innocent men, women, and children of their neighbors. Deep in his soul something stirs, but is it enough to stop a mad king and his army of the damned from marching across Greece - or even Olympus itself?!

Warner Bros. in Talks with Amblin to Reboot GREMLINS

GremlinsBandeau.jpg

Vulture is reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures is negotiating with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment to reboot their 1984 horror comedy, Gremlins. The site's sources reveal that negotiations of this sort have happened several times over the years, but making Spielberg’s deal always proved too daunting a financial prospect and his involvement might simply be a requirement for making the film at all, so don’t hold your breath.

Having said all of that, Vulture's source reports that it might just actually come off this time. This wouldn’t be something Spielberg would direct, of course – he only executive produced the original, with Joe Dante behind the camera – but it never hurts to have the Great Man’s name on your project.

This is a draft script of the Captain Marvel script written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out). Marvel Studios execs are said to be very enthusiastic after reading the script and the consensus is it's the best origin story since the first Iron Man.

The movie starts with an exhilarating action sequence involving S.W.O.R.D. agents raiding a secret Skrull headquarters in a high rise building in the business district. The Skrulls are aliens with the abiility to shapeshift after a few minutes of mental concentration. The raid is led by Major Carol Danvers. She is described as tall (above 5'8"), blonde, beautiful and ripped.

Carol and a select few SWORD agents (Shane, Malcolm, Cat, Rodney), who are compatible with the KRX3 serum, inject themselves with the experimental formula which temporarily gives the recipient three times the physical abilities of a man in peak physical condition. Aside from the generic SWORD agents, Carol's support team also includes Rick Jones, a young techie wizard, and Dr. Walter Lawson, a brilliant science officer and creator of the KRX3 serum. Abigail Brand is also among the strike team.

The SWORD strike force meet some heavy resistance by the Skrulls during the assault on the building . Later on, Carol encounters Kleiser, the highest ranking member of the Skrull hierarchy on Earth. Kleiser manages to get away and detonates a bomb on the building which takes out a large chunk of the top floor. Many SWORD agents, including Tom, and Skrulls die from the explosion or fall to their death. Hawkeye and Rick survive but are in a tough spot with Hawkeye hanging on to a steel bar in one hand and holding onto Rick with his other hand. A few Skrull sleeper agents also survive and are about to finish off Hawkeye and Rick. The sniper on the S.W.O.R.D. chopper doesn't have a clear shot at the Skrulls.

Carol asks what floor Hawkeye and Rick are on and orders the sniper from the chopper to drop his rifle on her mark. Carol's wrist watch beeps an alarm indicating that the KRX3 boost will wear off in a few seconds. Carol frantically runs up a couple of stairs and gives the command to the sniper to drop his rifle. She smashes out of the window. She catches the rifle in mid-air, lands on the other side of the building and shoots the Skrulls just in time. A second later, her KRX3 boost expires.
