I don't think it was. On one of chaels podcasts he talks about how he purposely was trying to look like the jerk in order to make wanderlei the good guy but wanderlei couldn't figure it out.

The producers wanted even more animosity between the two so they showed (or told) wanderlei all the things chael was saying in the little 1on1 with the camera vignettes. Wandy got mad and the rest is history.

That marked Wanderlei's downfall. After that he went out of the reservation, the lights were on but there was no one home. Accusing the UFC of fixing fights than dialing back, cutting WWE promos, running away from USADA through the backdoor, he became a shitshow and took a huge dump on his reputation.

Before that year, people overwhelmingly liked Wandy.

Now he is that guy from your old gang you are embarassed to be associated with because he a grown ass bald man who still talks hood and lives with his mom.
