He either destroys, or he gets destroyed. He's like some extreme gatekeeper. He absolutely demolishes anyone below top 5, like wins without any question, but then gets beat like a jobber against any elite level fighter.

Its so confusing. At least a gatekeeper like Barboza has close fights with dudes below him, and sometimes gives the elite a tough fight. His level seems consistent. But Cerrone goes on like 9 fight winstreaks at LW, beating guys like Alvarez, Jury, Makdessi, Miller, Barboza with ease, and then gets dispatched by an elite fighter making him look like a, dare I say it journeyman. Now again he fucking schools Hernandez, Perry, Iaquinta, and then gets demolished like some amateur against Tony and Gaethje.

I know that his boxing defense is lacking, but it has to be some mental issue right? How does one school a guy like Iaquinta so hard, and then look like a fish outta water in his next fights.

Cerrone's problem is and always has been unless he can dictate the pace of the fight he usually gets overwhelmed and folds. Anyone who is very aggressive and comes forward throws him off and he looks lost.

Cerrone has always been inconsistent. Shits the bed in every relevant fight. Really only shines in "fun fights"

He's a good muay thai striker, but not that dynamic at it, and has great bjj. It's like a 2005 skillset. I think his style is just outdated at the elite level .

He's very inconsistent. Also he's getting old. When he fights to his potential he is much better than he showed vs Justin

One of Cowboy's biggest problems is he put a ton of mileage on in a short period of time. Nobody can shrug off this sort of mileage.

2015 - fought 4 times.
2016 - fought 4 times
2017 - fought 3 times
2018 - fought 3 times
2019 - fought 4 times

Think about that shit. That's a 5 year span where he fought on average, almost every 90 days.

Guy is such a cringey tryhard only Americans would fall in love with.

Guy says he's a normal blue collar guy but is a spoiled trust fund baby.

"When Cerrone was offered his first MMA fight and upon learning his opponent had a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, his grandfather bought Cerrone a house from Vail, Colorado and hired Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Carlos Carvalho to train with him three times per day."

Sure, but you'd think guys like Barboza, Alvarez, Iaquinta, even Hernandez, would be able to have some success if that was the case. Alvarez did do decent, but was outclassed overall.

But they never did, he led the attack. Watch the Barboza one back. He never let Barboza get off shit and Edson was hesitant

Mileage, gets hit a lot,
lacks head movement and boxing, especially defense.

his last fight was one of his worst performances. Gaethje didn't even put on his usual pressure that Cowboy usually finds hard to deal with. Cowboy just was countered everytime because he was very slow, predictable and had no defense at all. I think he should have taken a longer break after the Ferguson fight. He'd do better with longer breaks between fights especially at this point in his career. Knowing his fighting mentality, he unfortunately will keep fighting frequently.

He is trying so hard to be a solid boxer but if he doesnt mix it mostly he is failing, especially against solid strikers

When did he say he's a normal blue collar guy?

It's not weird for the lightweight division. He is a contender and a former title challenger, but the top 5 is constantly in flux in the LW division except for the top two, which is consistently Khabib and Tony. Lightweight is just full of killers and it all depends on the matchup.

Whoever is teaching him striking defence at Jackson-Wink needs to be shot in the head....he has literally had the same hole in his game for years and has never improved on it.
