I was wondering if anyone knows of any reputable CACC schools in Upstate NY? Not too far upstate would be ideal, but at this point, any info would suffice. I'm looking for something in the Hudson Valley area or anywhere between Westchester & the Albany area. Needless to say (for some), I'm not having much luck online. If anyone can give me the name(s) & "pedigree" of the instructors, that would also be a big help. I appreciate any help given. Apologies if anyone has posted something same or similar. Thanks in advance.

Why catch?

I know good BJJ and MMA schools in the Hudson Valley. Haven't heard of any catch schools.

Chances are you are going to get pretty sub-par instruction. lol

I know some excellent BJJ schools in the area. I'm doing some research on grappling & the different arts/disciplines. Catch is next on the list.

I might be concerned about this if I were looking for instruction. What makes you jump to that conclusion, however? Is it the fact that there is limited info available about schools in the area or is there another reason for that assumption? Anyways, if I were looking for instruction, I seriously doubt I would receive sub-par instruction, as I would never take instruction from a sub-par instructor...:icon_chee

So you're researching and not actually looking to train?

Jesus Christ, bro...no disrespect, but are you answering any questions or just asking questions? I thought the OP would suffice.

See the first post. Don't know of any catch schools. And yeah, it's fucking weird to say you want to "research" a school, but not so you can train there. Generally not how the grappling forum works.

So, one wouldn't go to the grappling forum to find info on schools that specialize in a grappling discipline? My reasons for wanting the info shouldn't matter to anyone. I don't see how my answering "why catch?" would help anyone find a school in the area I specified. If I need to get on the mat, I will. But I'm not looking to become an expert in Catch. I'm very happy with the training I receive. But I love martial arts. I like to study & research all types of martial arts. Right now, I'm looking at Catch. I want to speak to instructors, practitioners, etc. If necessary (& I'm pretty sure it will happen) I will roll. But I'm not looking to walk into any academy that focuses on any specific discipline & be known as "the BJJ guy," or "the boxing guy," "Muay Thai guy," etc. That tends to make people feel that they have to show "that guy" that their discipline is superior & that's not what I'm looking for.

The reason I say that it is likely you will receive sub-par instruction is the following:

BJJ and high school/college/olympic wrestling all have an extremely competitive scene in the US. You can very easily look up the results from the largest tournaments, see who won, what schools they are affiliated with, and who else on their team is also good. Through extremely rigorous standards, the technique/timing has been refined and if you go to a reputable school, chances are you will be learning something completely different than from a school run by a Joe Blow instructor.

Now regarding Catch wrestling... the competition scene is non-existant in America. Their catch-specific tournaments don't even compare to the local BJJ/wrestling tournaments in terms of overall skill level and even those are extremely sparse. It is near impossible to see who has the best credentials other than personal claim. It could very easily lead to a waste of time, where your time/effort could have been spent far more efficiently with a proven instructor with real credentials.

A lot of guys that claim to be catch teachers really aren't trained in catch, or they attended a seminar or the like. The fact is what legit catch schools are hard to come by, and the fact that you're looking for one in a very particular and not densely populated area means that you probably won't find one.

And you won't know you're getting sub par instruction unless you have previously received quality instruction. Just saying.

Tang's Mauy Thai has some kind of CSW background, I don't know of their rank or level if any exists. They train out of Renzo Gracie Latham academy, there are alot of very good grapplers there.

Tang's is legit. Greg is the man.

There is also world level judo at Jason Morris.

Thanks a bunch. I assumed as much when I began my search & pretty much came up with nothing. As to the sub-par instruction, I always check people out before wasting my time. If I can't find anyone to legitimize claims, I won't give the benefit of the doubt. I appreciate the info.

Thanks. I pretty much assumed that's where you were going with that comment. Just wanted to verify & hear your take on it. I don't plan on competing or doing any hardcore training. I'm very happy with my current training. I appreciate you taking the time & giving a detailed answer.

I'm familiar with Renzo Gracie Latham, although I've never visited or trained there. They're an affiliate of my school, so Tang's is where I will probably visit. Thanks for your help...much appreciated.

And by the way, maybe you should ask in the sticky thread about cacc, lots of catch guys there.
