Can someone explain to me why cats make better pets than dogs?

Cats are more cost-effective, require less maintenance, and are more independent. However, dogs offer superior companionship, easier training, protection, and emotional support, making them the better choice for pets. It’s puzzling why anyone, especially those with families, would opt for a cat over a dog. If you’re seeking the advantages of a cat, you might as well consider getting a hamster.

I have two cats and a dog, and they both have their roles in the house. I would say though if you get a cat that has a personality of a dog, then it's the best of both worlds. You get a sociable, playful pet that is also clean and not needy (and one of my cats is like that)

Edit: the black cat is the dog cat

you can leave your Cats for extended period of time,
need to take out your dogs multiple times per day.

And I had some fucking cuddly cats in my life.

Lol , I'm sat here with our youngest cat on my knee currently and I normally wake up with her cuddled up by my feet. I leave my bedroom window open for her to get in...

The other two cats we have, the big black one chooses if she is sitting with you but often will, the middle one is very rare she comes to cuddle but she is nervous of the youngest cat...

Thats what doggie doors are for. Both of our dogs are trained to use the doggie door since they were pups.

I would put one in if I didn't think that if someone broke in that the GSD would take her ball to them to play with her ...

Don't have that problem. My dogs bark if they here someone near our property. They are medium size dogs, but the one has a vicious sounding bark, lol.

Lol , our rescue mutt from Greece is trappy and barks at cats nearby that aren't his or delivery drivers etc . The GSD we were hoping might have picked up the habit from him , monkey see, monkey do as it were ..nope .... anyone coming to the door is friendly...

My dogs will bark until the person comes in the house, then they either run up to them to say hi, and get pet, or run and hide if they don't trust the person at first. lol, great watch dogs, lousy guard dogs.

People can try, but they’ll fail.

Dogs get called man’s best friend for a reason.

I don’t think dogs offer “superior companionship.” They’re great companions, but I’ve had close bonds with all my cats. I think the companionship is just different, and depends what type of companion you want.

I also don’t necessarily agree about easier to train. I mean yeah, if you mean doing tricks and shit, sure. Enjoy taking your dog outside to shit in a blizzard while my cat uses the litter box though, something that’s super easy to train a kitten to do.

I like cats precisely because they’re independent and not clingy. They’re very sweet and very affectionate, but they aren’t overbearing. They suit my style.

You can train your dog to use a litter box or disposable pads
