Can someone explain Chael’s “Tag Team” BJJ match rules?

So stupid and gimmicky. I was actually embarrassed when I saw it on IG. Shit was cringey as hell.

It is gimmicky, but it is fun and entertaining at the same time.

The rules are pretty simple.
1 person from each team facing off at a time.
Partner has to be between the two posts for their corner to get tagged in.
Can tag partner in at any time.
They have 3 seconds to "double team".
Once there is a tap they switch who is in.
At the end of the time the team with the most subs wins.
If its a draw, crowd votes.

Its usually fast paced and energetic since you can tag a fresher team mate in.

ZST and Contender's tag-team stuff was always epic, but then again they always got exciting grapplers to participate in it and they went hard, which was probably a big part of why it was always exciting. Boring grapplers can make any format boring.

So he says he's retiring or at least taking a huge hiatus. Do you guys think he's trolling?

It's fun to watch. Chael's trying to get people watching grappling who don't grapple (won't ever happen, but a valiant effort).

I think could easily happen. They--the competitors--just have to treat it like a spectator sport. Not everyone is going to be Hideo Tokoro or Garry Tonon, but you should compete with the intention of giving people their money's worth. Very seldom, it seems, do the vast majority of grapplers do that these days.

i love this the grappling community needs more things like this

It’s super fun and entertaining to watch. Guys take it seriously enough to grapple hard but not so seriously that there’s hurt feelings and attitude if they lose.

I hate it. It’s a silly spectacle, that turns jiujitsu into something more like hungry hungry hippos. The rulesets of IBJJF & EBI are bad enough, with their faults, but at least they are somewhat trying to respect the art. This tag team crap is going in the ridiculous opposite direction, low attention span nonsense, just a waste of good competitors’ time & energy.
