By the time Mcgregor is back and fit to fight again, Makhachev is going to likely be the Lightweight champion or booked for the title fight. He would maul Mcgregor.

Then at Welterweight you have an absolute beast in Kamaru Usman another dominant wrestler with crisp boxing. Same for Colby if he happens to win the rematch, and Colby has cardio for days while Mcgregor gasses by Rd2/3

THEN you have Chimaev also entering the top tier of Welterweight another dominant wrestler with good hands.

All of these guys look so far superior to Mcgregor, will he ever become a champion again and if not what is his position in the UFC at this point?

Not necessarily, if Dustin beats Oliviera guarantee Dana will try and garner one last big payday off Conor, especially if Diaz walks after his last contracted fight. Don't think it goes well for Conor but he's a Dustin victory away from a LW title fight.

McGregor has been going on and on for years about a rematch with Khabib, and using tribal narratives (we won the war, I whooped his blood brothers etc) to find small victories here and there.
Why not fight Islam and make Khabib watch cage side as you beat his brotha?

For the record I have 0 belief that McGregor ever faces Islam, but I would like to see this match. I'm just creating a narrative here that could work.

The person holding the belt doesn’t matter. Conor doesn’t care enough to win the belt again

If they ever bring back a vanity belt like the BMF belt or something.

Conor's only win since 2017 was Cowboy Ceronne, who was on a 2-fight skid.

What do you think?

McGregor has 0% chance of wearing the UFC WW belt which is the same % probability he ever had. McGregor's power would have little or no effect on the WW division, he would no longer enjoy the height, reach, distance advantage that he benefitted from at 145 and sometimes at 155. Plus 170 has big strong guys who can grapple fuck AND strike with power. McTapper gets stopped by any of the Top 10 at WW.

McGregor has a very slim chance to win a LW belt given that he will likely be gifted another LW title fight that he doesn't deserve via beating other top contenders. Since anything can happen in an MMA fight, McGregor has a puncher's chance to win the LW belt. But given his inability to go more than 2 rounds hard due to poor cardio and his subpar wrestling and BJJ skills, it's really a slim puncher's chance. In addition, given his behavior, McGregor could end up in jail and be unable to fight during parts of his athletic prime. McGregor is one more loss away from being irrelevant, so the UFC has to be very careful who they feed him next. Expect a favorable match-up against someone lacking a strong ground game OR an older former champion on the downside, but with name recognition. They might even give him Tony Ferguson given the name / record, but who is very spent. The problem with Ferguson is that despite being way past his prime, he is still a dog with strong cardio and if the fight goes to the later rounds he will no doubt find a way to finish McGregor probably by submission.

There's a better chance that the Detroit Lions win the Superbowl this year than there is that Conor holds another (legit) UFC belt.

And the Lions won't even make the playoffs.

Conor will be able to continue to fight and choose smart opponents. He more than likely will never be a serious contender for a belt again. He was away too long and the sport has passed him. It's apparent his team is full of yes men and his ego doesn't allow him to accept losses and grow from them.

If Bisping and Glover can, so can Conor. Dana will of course have to tweak the circumstances to make it happen. McGregor can still win fights - he just needs the opponents and timing to be favorable.

But regardless, he will never put together a string of defences. It'll be one and done - he will tell us what a hero he is for coming back from that shin injury, claim to be the greatest ever and announce his retirement.

Dustin will beat Islam, so that narrative doesnt really matter. Conor would lose a third time to Dustin. The last two fights have proven he is better than Mcgregor everywhere.

No. Conor is done. I am not interested in seeing him fight anymore. He is not fully committed to fighting and it shows. I have no interest.

I'm not even sure he could win another fight let alone a title..
This isn’t hyperbole. It’s very possible to get into Dan hooker or mike perry territory. Always exciting, usually in the fight, but wins hard to come by. At worst, I’d give all the top 10 55ers a 50/50 shot with a never evolving slowing down Canor coming off a nasty injury that MMA fighters have a precedent of not returning to full form from

Hold a belt again? I'll be surprised if he even steps inside the cage against a dangerous opponent again.
