Hey guys, yeah. I got caught in one today. Hurt like a bitch. He cranked it like a mofucka. I tapped quickly maybe only like 2-3 seconds in, and i expected the pain to go away but damn this shit won't go away. Idk... Just pain and hard to extend the arm. I don't wanna worry bout it over the next few days, nor do i have the money to go see a doc, but i just wanted to know if it can even cause injury? I've always told it was strictly pain.

Definitely not strictly pain. Your elbow will eventually separate.

If your arm didn't explode, I think you'll be OK. Rest, ice, elevation.

I think the forearm snapping in half is usually what happens first

I remember in another thread about this, someone said he got bicep slicered at a tournament and didn't tap, and a couple days later his forearm snapped when he posted on the mat and put weight on it in training. Apparently he got a hairline fracture from the slicer and didn't know it.

From what I recall it can tear the muscle away from the bone, which might require surgery. Maybe go to the doctor if it doesn't feel better.

Wouldn't that mean the pressure of the slicer was misplaced? As in, correctly lodged it should seperate the elbow, not exert massive pressure on the forearm.

But then again, that is a very real risk with the technique. The forearm ending up taking most of the force I mean.

It can damage your muscle. If you're pissing a weird color at all, go see a doctor ASAP.

The radius runs along the thumb side of the forearm. The radius is at its thinnest nearest to the elbow joint. It's not hard to see how the arm would break before the elbow separated.

to build on this, the bone fractures are less common because people usually tap to the pain or threat of injury before it gets to bone breaking pressure. But the move is basically putting a fulcrum on your forearm. Think of a crowbar trying to pry a heavy weight off the ground. Your forearm is the crowbar and your elbow is the weight. Either you will lift the object off the ground (separate elbow) or the crowbar will break in half (forearm bones).

This^^

My coach told me he saw a guys bicept get detached from the bone and never did bjj again

I was under the impression that that were just pain
until i broke my radial bone (the small one in your forearm) six years ago
and to this day I have pain in that arm
so no tap to it and be done with it

Who keeps perpetuating these myths?

I recall Joe Rogan saying the calf slicer was "strictly a pain submission" or something when Rafael dos Anjos had Tyson Griffin in one and I did the Jackie Chan my head is full of fuck expression to my dog, because nobody else was in the room to see me outraged.

read about a guy who it sheared his bicep muscle off of the bone.
serious stuff.

I remember being told at a Carlson Sr seminar that a bicep cutter had caused an artery to rupture - killing a man in Brazil. ~ Not that I ever believed that.

But in theory its possible.

Any bone break can potentially sever arteries.

Who keeps perpetuating these myths?

Bas Rutten. Well, I at least recall him saying the same thing about Achilles locks.
