Just got membership but I'm confused what are good deals at Costco. Several websites are conflicting.

Cheap:

1) Milk

2) vitamins

3) electronics (because of 2 year warranty and easy return)

4) common frozen food like Buffalo Wings is cheap. 5 lbs for $12.

Not to buy:

1) paper toilets & towels

2) candies

3) pasta

4) produce

One question though is the meat. Every site says they're a good deal because of quality but from local asian & mexican supermarkets in my area, it's about $1-$2 more per lb. What's the deal with this?

I don't shop at costco too often but they have great deals on their drinks and snacks. Otherwise Mom and pop shops probably have better deals, especially when it comes to everyday items.

Let me know if you arrive a good answer, it's been a question for me.

Ethnic markets tend to be cheaper because they're lower down on the buying chain. The quality sometimes ain't that great.

There big ass pack of Kirkland toilet paper is a great deal and they are huge rolls which last forever. They also have nice big packs of individually wrapped chicken breasts that are a good price as well. Good prices on Kirkland dog food too, which is made by Diamond Naturals, a great brand of food.

But those fucking jugs of milk.... why in god's name did someone think it was a good idea to design them like that?

You have to comparison shop most items. I've found great deals and total washouts where the Kirkland product was more per unit than national brand right next to it.

The meat department at most any CostCo really is tops but, if you're familiar and trusting with the Asian and Hispanic markets near you (who have pride in butchery as a craft) then go by your own values and instincts. They will have a variety of product and service you likely won't match at those places and vice versa.

If I may suggest one thing: If you do energy drinks, get the Kirkland 5hr Energy. Less than half per unit as the brand.

if you buy two shopping carts full of cheetos the clerk at the register will give you a funny look.

Best deal in town.

Their meat is good. But you have to buy it in bulk. If you want a good Roundeye Steak, you have to buy four.

Eggs and bananas were a great deal there last time I went. Frozen wings not bad either.

all things Kirkland. seriously, they put out nothing but great product.

Steaks from costco usually beat the asian/latino markets which generally don't have steaks. Any non-steak cut you should just stick with the latino/asian markets. Latino markets also usually have really good pork. I'm not sure why.

Get some sausage. They have thr best Hot Links in the world.

I can't say for certain that the sausages you buy are the same as the ones they sell at Costco here in Canada, but yeah, their sausages are really freaking good.

One thing I always want to buy at Costco is the 4 pound box of pulled pork for $12. However, I would have to be feeding about 20 people.

Those might as well be made from brussel sprouts.

I found this thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/693634

Consensus is their meat quality is better than most grocery stores and worth the extra $. For seafood go to Asian supermarkets.

I guess their lamb is really good but I don't know how to cook that

Do you know the brand of the sausage? I'd like to try it out. Yes homo.
