Ive read and heard the major differences between the two, rules wise but how do the techniques compare?

The only comment ive heard on technique is that Burmese boxing is less technical/deciplined.

I have the choice of attending a Muay Thai gym and a Bando gym. The Muay Thai gym is farther away and costs more money while the Bando classes take place at my weight gym and are a lot cheaper but looks to be not as organized.

any advice would help.
Thanks

ask for a free class at each, if not ask to watch a coupleof classes at each, watch a begginers class or concentrate on watching the begginers in the class if it is mixed with experienced and begginers. Ask to sit with each tacher and ask them reasonable questions about their background, style, training philosophy, etc...see which one you connect with better and which class looks to be more your style...I like a highly oraganized and disciplined style other people like a looser let's work some techniques then go f around with them style...

once you've done this, assuming money/travel aren't deciding factors, you'll know which one feels better for you....avoid long term contracts and if you are wrong switch to the other one..

Try it & find out.
The two styles aren't that dissimilar, so my advice would be to go to both & pick the one you think will teach you most.

Not sure which I'd prefer to take as I haven't actually seen the Burmese boxing, but there is an interesting article in the Feb issue of Stuff (the one with the Maid from My Name is Earl on the cover) about fights on the Burma Thailand border where the Bando guys fight the Thai boxing guys in the ring. You might want to have a look at it. It didn't really get into style differences, just how poorly some of the fighters were treated and how they use kids to fight.

Thanks for the good advice.
I decided to go with Muay Thai simply because the Bando class incorporates to much extracurricular crap like weapons, healing etc... Im most interested in kicking, punching, technique and time on the pads right now.

I would go with the Muay Thai. In theory Bando is much more "deadly" as it refers to muay thai stuff back when headbutting and such was allowed. More than likely, you would learn more techniques in a Bando class but you wouldn't be drilling them and with the intensity as you would in a muay thai class.

I trained In Bando for 3 and a half years and my trainer drilled me religiously and with intensity. It all depends on the instructor, but If your looking for an art to train in that will show you how to punish people, Bando Is the way to go.

That Bando fighter is a poor example to use in my opinion ACR.
