Well today I got pretty mad, hit something, was waiting for my ride to pick me up to go to boxing and I realized my middle knuckle was swollen VERY badly, it was smushy and a was about the size of a marble bigger than the other. So I went to the doctor, they took X-rays and found out my pinky knuckle was broken. The doctor said it was called a "boxers fracture" (ironic?). So now I will be wearing a cast for 6 weeks..

So my question is, after the six weeks will I be able to get back to training normally again?

I think that's what he was thinking about you, as in don't punch things because you're mad.

That said, everyone heals differently, so take a wait and see approach, and listen to your doctor. Don't rush back to training before everything is solid again, and when you do get back, take it easy for a while.

While your hand is healing, work on your other hand, footwork, cardio, and strength training.

I don't know if it will help everyone but I do push ups with my knuckles. It seems to have made my hands way more resilient to blunt force trauma.

lol @ losing your temper because someone was late to pick you up, making a thread about it, and then losing your temper again when someone laughs at you.

Did you break your foot by kicking a wall when I wrote "lol"....lol

ROFL

I had a "boxers fracture" on the outer bone in my hand near my pinky. When it happened I thought I just jammed my pinky knuckle. I had the cast on for like 2 weeks then they had to rebrake it when I went back again because it heeled crooked. All togehter I would say it was messed up for about 5 weeks before it healed.

Sucks about the busted knuckle and everything.. but this post just made me crack up.

I didn't lose my temper...

And I wasn't mad because someone was late to pick me up you moron. When did I say that? I was mad about a serious fucking problem.

And me saying "you're an idiot" is losing my temper? Explain.

Deep breaths, man. Don't go punching anything else. You should be ok as long as you let it heal fully before going at it again.

I don't know if you can grip a barbell well. But this could be an opportunity to lay off the bagwork and strengthen up a bit with deadlifts, squats, and benches. You could probably do some recuperative exercises for the first week or two and then get back into light cardio and conditioning.

Good luck, hope it heals well.

i hit the bag with no gloves sometimes. i heard it toughens up your fists. does anyone know if this is severly detrimental? I mean my hands just get alittle scabbed up but i recieve any pain in the knuckles.

i know its totally a whitebelt question but i heard Ali often hit the bag with no wraps and gloves. Not that im trying to be Ali or anything..

btw to the OP. if you've never fought before, you are now 0-1. got your butt kicked by the wall. lols.

sometimes an injury can be a good thing.
It gives more time to focus on practicing other things you may often neglect.

Be careful after you get the cast off.

Six weeks of not being able to use your hand could weaken the muscles in your hand. Just go slow at first and stop if you have any soreness. Don't try to tough it out because then you'll just end up doing more damage and have to sit out another six weeks.

Hand problems are serious for boxers and need to be treated that way.
