Hey guys,

when I'm sparring, I find my nike free runs get caught on the cloth canvas a lot and it trips me up or when I slide my foot, it doesn't move.

I don't spar enough that I want to get shoes just for boxing, do you guys have any recommendations for any all purpose training shoes that work well in the ring?

maybe even vibrams?

I'd use vibrams for sparring/ training and a boot for competition.

Just go to your local sporting goods store and pick up some cheap wrestling shoes. Way cheaper than Vibrams if you're only going to use them in the ring.

wrestling shoes or vibram five fingers.

If you dig the vibrams, they actually make them in boxing shoes...however, you need to be a professional to get them and no commission allows them, yet.

Converse Chuck Taylor Mid or High

it's not a specific boxing shoe, but it works for me. Easy on the eyes, light, cheap, comes in many different colors, and it feels close to the ground. It doesn't feel like a regular running shoe, where its all absorbed by the foam. Think of a very light version of a Chuck Taylor shoe.

Try them out on a shoe dept. pretty sure you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, the asics look nice, not a thick sole... and can wear it anytime for whatever

I never owned chuck taylors, but would the soles be a bit hard... that is the exact problem with the running shoes, I lose all my feel in my foot...

The converse type shoes do not work man. The sole is too stiff, it's a heavy sole, it's a thick sole and I thought they were made for skateboarding. Like Vans, Supras ect. They all have the same type sole made for skateboarding. I haven't sparred in a pair, but i do own a pair. In my gym that isn't even considered work attire. You can't go in the ring without propper boxing boots, wrestling shoes or vibrams.

sweet. Thanks guys.

Yeah, I might just check out the vibrams, I'm in canada, so they don't usually sell wrestling shoes in our sports stores..

I found this link for the boxing vibrams, looks amazing actually...

There you go. Converse Chuck Taylor Mid or High is what Sinister recommended to me and his group (a reputable boxing trainer and a mod over at F11. He is an understudy of Mike McCallum and currently running a well-known gym in Vegas). And i agree with his recommendation because it is comparatively cheap vs the other shoes but it is very good for what its worth. He and his fighters use the shoes while training.

Nah. The sole is not that hard at all. It allowed me to keep my feet in natural arch while also provide support for my ankle. It had surprisingly good grip too.

I've used mid-top chuck's before and had no problem but they were also the shoes I wore to skate and I trashed em lol. Now I just use my Asics wrestling shoes, love em so much.. so comfortable haha.

Obviously you dont know shit.

It's really just personal preference really. I have flat feet so most shoes fucking kill my feet, fuck I wear Tom's to run in a lot now because flat shoes like that don't make the arches in my feet hurt, when I would wear running shoes to run my feet fucking hurt.

I used to rock Chuck's for boxing years ago, but I found that my wrestling shoes were much better and I've been using them for a few years now. Though I am ordering a pair of HyperKO's soon

sweet... I think I'll choose between asics or vibrams, and maybe try some chucks,

I feel like I need to find a busy store.... I don't want the workers to hand me my size 10 chucks and I start using footwork to test out the shoes lol

Now someone needs to explain how we can get the vibram boxing shoes.... I'd get that

Wrestling shoes are probably the best alternative to boxing shoes without compromising lightness, grip and comfort. Yep, very practical for training. I have boots up to my calves and its so damn impractical to lace 'em up before and after training. Boots are only for the ring.

They sexy as hell though haha.

I've been working out in a pair of barefoot running shoes. Mine are made by Merrell, I think its the barefoot glove model.

There's no padding on the sole, and it's thin and flexible to let you manuever. they are about the same thing as the vibrams, but without the goofy toes; mine are comfortable and fit like a glove. I wear mine as regular shoes in the summer and for dayhikes, and they've held up nicely for about 2 years. I'm probably going to buy another pair of the same ones to replace them.

Try suplay, they are US, but I got my wrestling shoes delivered with tax for under $50

You can go to your local sport's store (Sport's Authority, Dick's, etc) and get a decent pair of Asic or Adidas wrestling shoes for like $45. Or better yet, if there's a Play-it-Again Sports near you, you might luck out and get a used pair for like 10-$15.
