Boxing legend Manny Pacquiaoappeared on Saturday’s Rizin FF 40broadcast and announced his intention to compete for the promotion in 2023.

“A few months ago, I was here as a guest and today I have a very exciting announcement tonight,” Pacquiao said during an in-ring appearance. “I have agreed with Rizin to fight next year, the date will soon be announced and also my opponent that Rizin will choose. I’m open and excited to fight a Japanese fighter.”
Pacquiao, 44, and Rizin FF president Nobuyuki Sakakibara announced in front of the crowd at Saitama Super Arena outside Tokyo that the former world champion boxer will step into the Rizin FF ring next year, but did not clarify who or which ruleset under which he will compete.
Pacquiao is not the first legendary boxer to work with Rizin. His longtime rival and one-time opponent Floyd Mayweather has fought in a pair of exhibition bouts with the organization, as well.

Why is it that most of the retired fighters can not just stay retired for most of the time? I don't think money is the case in this situation.

Because it's what they know best, it still gives them joy to compete, and it's hard to let go of fame and success.

With someone like Manny who was basically the center of the universe for so many fans worldwide it must be a huge struggle to let go. He's also kept himself in good shape and I'm sure he still enjoys a lot of what goes on in terms of competing and putting on a show.

On top of all that, the money can't hurt either.

Because being retired is probably boring to them. It happens across all sports, you see it all the time.

Because retirement has becone a shitty contract negotiation tactic.

Let Pacman beat up Tenshin too imo
Tenshin is making the switch to boxing. He's been training in USA for his cross over, he was sparring at Robert Garcia's gym. The Floyd fight most likely really got to him, he wants to have a better showing after what happened in the Floyd fight. He's going all in on boxing.

If you can make millions doing exhibitions, would you stop? Plus PAC spent a lot of his own money on his presidential campaign, taking exhibition fights to try and recoup on those expenses is the smart thing to do. Also these people are natural competitors, fighting is in their blood. PAC was going light during his last exhibition until he got hit, then shades of PAC MAN started showing itself lol. To the point that DK was trying to throw the fight, run the clock, and calling for timeout LMFAO.

Similar thing happened with Sugar Ray when he was sparring for fun during a cruise and he switched into kill mode. These people are natural fighters, wondering why they like fighting so much it's because they are natural fighters. Most people can't stand fighting, some people love it, and love the competition that comes with it. Most likely they also like having a goal and putting in the work to achieve that goal. Like Tyson Fury without boxing turned into a mess and probably why he couldn't stay retired either. Plus the money made from fights is hard to turn down. Most people will never make that kind of money in their whole lives, those boxers can make it in one night. I wouldn't quit either.

Marvin Hagler and Rocky Marciano were able to stay retired and live comfortable.

Must be something in the Brockton water

Make no mistake RIZIN are planning for Pacquiao
to lose to one of their guys

3 Round exhibitions against a guy like Pacquiao
is not that hard, Even Kai Asakura could do it

pacman won't fight someone legit, or younger. i guarantee you it won't be asakura bros or tenshin. i bet it will be gomi. and of course it will be exhibition, and of course no one is getting KO'd. It is not even a real fight.

Gomi and Kai crossed my mind first. But who knows? Takimoto's cyber popularity might push him to the main event.

I predicted Pacquiao's joining Rizin about an hour before the official announcement. But I didn't know he was in Japan.
