Does anyone know any boxing gyms in northern virginia? Ive been researching and all I can find in MMA/hyrbid or muaythai, no pure boxing gyms. I was wondering if anyone had some info, thank you

Im about 20-30 miles from DC but with traffic its a bit of a drive. But wouldnt be opposed to the idea

I didn't want to start a new thread on the same topic, so gonna resurrect this one. I have seen the directory of all the boxign gyms etc, but any residents of N.Va actually train at any of these places and if so, any reviews?

There is LA boxing Alexandria and Arlington. Both are decent and they put on their own amateur cards of boxing, kickboxing, and mma. They are exhibition format, rather than USA amateur. But it is still fun.

thanks for the reply ccfan. i always thought that la boxing was a fitness gym, not a legit boxing gym. will they actually train me in the fundamentals/advanced principles of boxing? have you or anyone else heard of the olympia boxing gym in falls church?

thanks.

I have not heard of that one. LA will teach you if you go to the right classes. Many of the classes ARE fitness classes. But look at the schedule on their websites, it will say "boxing technique" or something similar if it is not a typical fitness class. I go to the LA in Columbia, MD when I can. Although, I haven't been going much this past year, as I am finishing nursing school. But 2-3 times a week they have a technique class, and the people from that class may meet up 1 or 2 other times a week to train together and spar.

I am sure it is the same at those locations, they have the same owners along with Georgetown, Rockville, and Bethesda. You can use all their locations.

Olympia is very good. LA Boxing is definitely more of your fitness gym..however they do have some good fighters that work there that can train you one on one but it gets pricey. Another good spot is ABC (annandale boys and girls club) Coach Leo runs it and he also trains todd wilson who is 13-0.

I would go with Olympia or ABC.

I recommend Alexandria Boxing Club.

Well, honestly I don't know how it is anymore, but back when I used to roam NoVa, Alexandria Boxing Club was quality. Highly recommend it as a legit boxing gym. I've heard good things about LA Boxing as well, they supposedly have some good trainers.

Check them out.

Always shocks me to hear Americans say things like "I can't find a local Boxing Gym". Is Boxing really that dead in the states these days?

In the UK there is a Boxing gym on almost every street corner. It's the complete opposite to America, Boxing gyms are everywhere, probably about 10-15 in every town. MMA & Kickboxing gyms on the other hand are quite rare, usually 1 maybe 2 per major city e.g. Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield etc. except London where there will be like 30 or something but that's London, and probably 0 in most smaller towns.

Not sure about the gyms, but there is an increase in boxing cards in nova.

Check the boxrec schedule and contact the promoter of the next card being held in the area.
