I need help hanging my 50lb bag from my garage roof.
It's unfinished and has the long wooden planks running across the top.
I almost have everything I need:

Bag:

Wood Beam Hanger

Planks I wish to hang it from:

Possible height problem? Planks are 10 feet from floor to bottom of plank..

Still need to buy chain and swivel.
I know I will have to drill a 2x4 horizontally across these planks to anchor the hanger.
Just wondering if will even be possible to hang it from these planks or are they too high up? If not, how can I get the bag hanging at the right height, any ideas?

Any input is very much appreciated.
Thank you!

Before I lived with my parents they "gave" me the garage for my gym. I knew they planned on selling the house in the near future so I never drilled into the beams. Instead wrapped rock-climbing rope ~7 times around the beam and a carabiner. However, Drilling is your best option.

1) I would add a few more cross-supports (two-three, 2x4 should do)
2) use Thai Bag Joist Hanger - KO Fightgear if you can
3) go to home depot and get a porch spring (it should be near the nuts and bolts)

This is how I do it

Costs about $20 and an hour to build. The one I built at my brothers has been around for 2 years with no issues, I built this one about 3 months ago, the ropes have broken a couple times but I think the carabiners should solve the problem.

It's alot quieter with rope instead of chain if you have other people that live in your house.

I don't like bag hangers, I like having my bag ~waist level. I always feel like I have to punch down, does anyone else know what i'm talking about?

If you want to hang it from the trusses fill the gap with a 2x10, use 4, 3" nails perside.

Attach a bolt like the one at the top of mine to the center of the 2x10 then attach it to your bag with chains and carabiners.

I would personally double up the 2x10 and make sure the trusses are strapped together well.

Thank you for the suggestions.
I've decided to go with a hybrid take. I like Boss' use or rope to dampen the sound, so I'll go with that instead of swivel/chain. What is a thin but strong rope? I was thinking hemp, but there must be stronger man-made ropes. I need something thin and flexible though so it can be put through metal hoops. This is because, one thing I forget to mention that makes this a bit more complicated is that I need to easily be able to take the bag down in case my mom needs to park the car. No big deal, just need to find clips that can support the weight of the bag and can efficiently clip on and off the ropes.

Here's a crappy paint sketch of what I'm hoping to do.

1. (2) 2 x 10, stacked on top of each other. Drilled down into trusses with (4-5) 5 inch screws.

2. Bolt

3. Heavy duty spring

4. Heavy duty rope(Hemp or strongest and thinnest rope available)

5. (In blue) Heavy Duty safety clips for bag attachment/release

Criticisms? Suggestions?
All appreciated.
