Hey,

I love shadowboxing but understand how some people find it boring or tough at first. Here's an article I wrote about how to mix things up by working with a partner.

Warning: Don't do too much shadowboxing! I remember a time when I used to do 30 minutes every morning and 30 minutes ever night (timing myself with the oven timer). Pretty soon I couldn't lift my arms away from my sides. Thinking I hurt my shoulders while grappling I kept on shadowboxing every morning and night until the pain became excruciating and I finally figured out that all of the punching was causing it lol.

... no, don't stop shadowboxing because some random on the net hurt his girly arms doing so..

I really wonder why people on Sherdog are so childish offensive all the time? That said, I'll put my flame suit on, because now I am probably a crybaby, a girl or a homo.

LMAO! Jeff has fought in the UFC, and been the champ of another org. So, this would be a good time to STFU, unless you can produce a superior resume and/or credentials. ;)

Good post. Sometimes I will do this with a professional fight when practicing at home. Pull it up on the laptop and shadow defend it. Not as dynamic as what Jeff posted but it's a good change of pace for me.

Huh. Never thought of that one. Thanks for the idea!

good ideas...but what the fuck at the terrible writing? wow.

Every boxer should know how, when, and why to shadow box.

I used to think shadow boxing meant beating the shit out of an imaginary
opponent at 100 miles and hour...then I watched some pro's shadow box. lol
Now I know better and my shadow boxing comes fluidly.

Anyone who is ever "bored" with Shadowboxing doesn't have the temperament for Combat Sports, IMO.

yeah, because MMA/UFC Boxing is so good.

If your shadow boxing and your arms hurt you're doing it wrong.
You ain't meant to extend to full reach or force.

Very true, but that wasn't the situation in my case. The problem was that I was actually shadowboxing for over an hour every day in addition to my BJJ and wrestling practices and regular boxing lesson.

What got sore (really sore) were the little muscles, that slow the arm down. I guess anything done too much can cause problems.

I find I get a little obsessive when I do stuff. It's help me accomplish my goals but it can sometimes be a bad thing.

I barely I saw my wife for our first 10 years of marriage. She feels like a new girlfriend now that I've stopped fighting. It's pretty cool.

Znap,

I agree with you about many mma guys lacking good boxing ablility but have always worked my ass off to never belike that. I hooked up a fantastic trainer over a decade ago and traded off daily private lessons in boxing for BJJ private lessons. He's a cousin of the Manfredo family.

My main sparring partners pver the years were some of Canada's best boxers and the experience I gained at that gym gave me a strong advantage in my mma fights in terms of striking.

Boxing is by far my favourite striking art and I still feel it is under appreciated in MMA. which is great for those that can become strong at it. So many details in regards to leverage, angles and head movement that no one really used yet in MMA.

Totally understand Jeff.
I should have made the point that beginners have a tendency to go all-out
and shadow box too hard, making them sloppy and fatigued.
