i know both the uppercut to the body and the hook to the body can hurt but is one better in a certian situation?

Instead of throwing either a hook or an upper cut, throw the Mexican liver shot it in between both punches and comes up on a 45 degree angle

I like the shovel punch. I think that's what dude above me means with the Mexican-style punch. But the uppercut can be very sneaky. Did you see those right uppercuts Shogun kept landing to Hendo's ribcage after slipping a jab? That's something I'd like to practice. Looked painful.

Tip on doing the uppercut/shovel is not to be too square. Most amatuer/novices square themselves in the inside and as a result end up throwing slapping body shots that do no damage

shovel punch is great for blasting the liver, hook is better for getting around a guard, uppercut better for dissecting a guard. basically use what will land depending on what your opponent is giving you and the angle you have/create. they also work well together as guys will instinctively tighten or broaden their guard based off the initial shot. Hatton was brilliant at comboing body shots and using his footwork to create the angle he needed.

lot of intricacies but thems the basics. lately i've fallen in love with the ranged uppercut to the body as Bute throws it, beautiful punch, rarely thrown. being a southpaw helps

when i say uppercut i meant shovel punch but ive never thought about doing a straight on upper to the body. I got another question though is a horizontal body hook better if ur facing someone who is taller than you to the point where his chest is level with your shoulers. That way you can protect your chin slightly with your punching hand

The straight uppercut to the body is very useful on the inside. I like to follow it up with a rear uppercut to the chin, the secret is to use the first uppercut to push them back just a bit to make room for your right.

Tyson used to throw his body shots very horizontal (15 seg)...

It really seems that he aimed to the ribs

He is wicked fast. Amazes me every time I watch highlights.

I like how he literally DIGS to the body. Malicious uppercuts.
