Not sure how popular this thread will be but here it goes.......

Anyone else here still play board games? I've been playing quite a bit since lock down and I'd like to expand into some more in depth games. I've been playing a lot of Catan, Carcassonne, Monopoly etc.... the usual classics.

Recently got into Dead of Winter which is quite a bit more in depth and it is a hell of a good time with the right people.

I ordered the Game of Thrones game but haven't received it yet.Anyway I was just wondering if anyone here plays board games. I remember a guy that had a Rory Mac AV was really into them. But I haven't seen him in awhile. I'd like to hear what you guys play and what you'd recommend.

Edit: also started playing Scythe awesome game but you really need 3 people. You can play with two but you really are just racing against each other for the most part instead of playing each other. There is a way to play single player but I haven't tried it.

I've also started playing 1775 Rebellion. This one is great for two players and has a lot more combat than Scythe.

I ordered The Seventh Continent at the start of the pandemic but found the rules pretty obtuse. The written instructions also seemed to differ from their tutorial. That plus a lack of time to play had me shelve it for a bit. Hope to get back to it in the near future.
Ticket to ride is a favorite around here.

I’ve played some while on quarantine. Did anyone else not realize they’ve changed a lot of the rules of Sorry!? It seems to be geared towards faster gameplay for modern people with the attention span of a gnat. I didn’t enjoy it as much.

I had to watch two separate 30 minute videos on Dead of Winter before i understood enough rules to play. Then went to a FAQ online to clear up some things. Seemed like everyone else had the same questions so i felt not so stupid lol.

I actually prefer playing Catan against AI opponents because they don't gang up and constantly step on you after you win too many in a row.

Don't sleep on a seriously played game of LIFE:

A less known game that is fantastic some close friends taught me about when I was younger is The Farmer's Game. It's a delight.

Of course the ultimate:

Used to a lot.

Very little the last few years.

Hoity Toity is learnable and playable by a wide audience, but good strategy gives you an edge. A good "n-dimensional matrix of options" type game.
Revolution is similar. A little less accessible to casual gamers.

Without going into details, some others I like:
RoboRally
Bridges of Shangri-la
Scotland Yard
Ice Towers

Damn I am out of likes but all of you punks would be getting likes.

Dead of winter looks interesting

I actually made my own board game based on mob lore. It was decent I revamped it with the addition of cards but I am still tweaking it.

Playing Dead of Winter now. It's not difficult but there are a lot of little things to remember. Its a blast when everyone knows what's going on though.

I dig tabletop stuff like that
It’s like zombie survival?

Chess is awesome just the other day I shot a 3 pointer from center board
The hardest part about playing chess though is finding enough people to fill out a team

Ive never played variants, although chessboxing has always sounded interesting.

Yeah. Every game has a different objective. It really changes the dynamic of the game everytime. It gets really tense near the end. Games are relatively short. Sometimes you have to kill zombies, sometimes you have to survive, sometimes you have to simply loot the police station and hospital. It has a kind of steep learning curve compared to something like Catan but its awesome when playing with people who know how to play
