Has anyone used bleach to quickly treat their ringworm infection? I've heard some guys at my old gym do so.

Did it leave a scar? How much did you dilute the bleach and how did you apply it?

No, that sounds retarded. I use pure tea tree oil. That stuff kills everything. If I don't have that, I use an anti-fungal cream from the doctor.

Bleach does work- I used it when I wrestled in high school. Put some directly on a cloth and press it against the affected area until you're tired of the stinging. Repeat once or twice throughout the day.

Pros: Kills your ringworm.
Cons: Burns your skin (though I never had a scar from it) smells like bleach (duh), probably isn't very good for you.

In all honesty, if you have any other option available I'd take it. Bleach is kind of a "nuclear option" if you've got a tournament in two days. If tea tree oil does the job (new to me but I'm no expert), I'd definitely try that first.

What Cratylus said. The bleach does speed up the process of drying out the ringworm though - I've used this prior to anti-fungal treatment a couple times and it trims some time off the recovery.

I use clear nail polish. It goes away within 3 or 4 days.

ive used it, yeah it kills the ringworm pretty quickly.

not the smartest option but works as a quick fix.

Use dead baby seal tears, works the best.

ive personally never gotten any kind of fungus or bacterial infections except a minor case of staff about 2 years ago but, ppl at my gym come down with ringworm and i have seen them pour bleech on the rw and then scrub it with a scrub brush till it bleeds. It def helps kill the rw quicker but it does leave a scar from what ive seen and it probably is not healthy-

This is an awful idea. You shouldn't ever pour undiluted bleach onto your skin. Anything less than a 1:1 mixture of water to bleach is a bad idea, and you probably should use a q-tip or cotton ball so you don't get the bleach all over your skin.

I used bleach in wrestling a couple times. I used cotton swabs to apply it to the rings, burns like a bitch, but it kills ringworm basically on the first shot. Leaves a rag nasty scar though.

I usually used straight bleach, but some of the other guys diluted 100:1 or 1000:1 and they said it hurt less and scared less, but it took more treatments to get rid of (we applied after every shower, so about 2 or 3 times a day).

That said, as I went through college, I learned that bleach usually contains some levels of caustic, which can penetrate deeply and cause permanent nerve damage, plus some cheaper bleaches will contain traces of chloride solvents that can penetrate the skin and deteriorate your bones...

So yeah, like one of the other guys said, bleach is the nuclear option. Basically, we only used it if we had something big coming up, since the prescription method only holds you out for 7 days anyway, but our rule in Kansas at least was that the sores had to be essentially healed, not just scabbed, so it couldn't be very fresh. Under your singlet was a different story, but visible stuff was pretty closely scrutinized.

Hmm Ive been grappling for a while and never got ring worm from the mats... You may want to look into how you clean the mats as a good start. Or maybe look into how you clean your arse...

bleach works diluted directly on the fungus.

I pour half cup of bleach in a warm bath once a month for no more than 10 minutes, just in case something comes up.

Highest risk of ringworm/staff when partners come back from comps.

No problems for me.

better safe than sorry.

I've used it to get rid of it quicker but it does leave a scar. I just dip a q tip in bleach and rub it fairly hard on the affected area. I do that twice a day till it becomes an open sore. I also apply terbinafine right after and it will be gone in no time. I keep with the terbinafine for 2 weeks even if its gone in a few days because I've had it come back on me before.

Obviously isn't what a doctor would suggest but if you want it gone I don't know a faster way. The cream I got the first time from the doctor didn't work at all. Good luck stay clean. I switch from regular bar soap to defense soap and haven't had any funk sense.

Anything you would get for athlete's foot works great on ringworm, too. Lotrimin clears is up pretty quickly.

I'm having some trouble making a dead seal cry, any tips?

I've never caught any funk from mats, but I'd have to be pretty desperate to rub undiluted bleach into my skin. I think I'd go for the clear nail polish or medication, at least till I can work out this seal thing.
