Game was ahead of it's time back in the day. In the age of mostly mindless shooters this was some serious ambitious title. Not only the storytelling was strong (no surprise) but soundtrack, shooting elements, magic, atmosphere of horror were crafted so well and it's a shame this game didn't really made it through. If that game was released few years later, perhaps reception would be better.

On occasion I still jump back to play it.

Here you go some early mission gameplay. Check for yourself

It's not underrated it's just kind of forgotten now. And yeah I agree, it would be the perfect candidate for a remake. Excellent game

Agreed. I could have sworn we already had a thread for this, but the only one I could find was the thread about RE7 being a ripoff of this game. It gets brought up in Remastered threads.
RE7 feels like Clive Barker's Undying rip off

The intro is such a spectacular setup.

I haven't played it, but I've been meaning to since watching this vid

Very interesting if you got a spare 45 minutes. Dude does thorough breakdowns

I remember the little baboon fuckers most of all.

i remember crapping my pants playing this, it used to make me jumpy as fuck, i stopped playing it in the end, but it was a great game that very few people talked about

Wow, what a game.

If you into old games try this one. The atmosphere is everything in this game and its also enjoyable to play.

Score:

Agreed, very cool and very unique game. A game that could definitely use a full remake today.

I feel like there hasn’t been a similar game to it. His follow up game was a big let down, can’t remember the name of that game anymore

Love Clive, read all his stuff. Great game. Total Clive Barker vibe start to finish.

Jericho?

From a period with interesting and unique games that used the Quake 3 or Unreal 1 engine. Undying, Heavy Metal 2, Wheel of Time, American McGee's Alice, etc.

I never played Undying but I loved Jericho and never understood the bad reputation it got. Yes the co op bots were more of a detriment than a help, and there wasn't a ton of variation in the enemies. So what? The story was interesting, the character interactions and backstories were great, the visuals are still stuck in my head to this day. Great game. Needs a sequel.

Each level being set in a different timeline and each one having you use different characters from the team helped keep it fresh imo

You nailed it cause I haven't played that game in probly a decade and I still remember the look of the Rome level amongst other things.

Undying is fucking great, one of the best horror FPS games out there with a good story and some terrific atmosphere (along with games like Condemned, System Shock 2 and Alien Isolation)
Only problem is it kind of shits the bed towards the end since it wasnt really finished.
